Burn Notice: Scatter Point

This week’s adventure starts out with Mike & Fiona bored to tears running surveillance on a PO box belonging to the ever-mysterious Carla. Cue the ultimate discovery of an exceedingly secure office building. But any regular Burn fan knows that overarching plot advancement takes a back seat to the client of the week, and soon enough an ex-con named Trevor shows up pleading for Mike’s help to pull off one last heist for a crime ring so he can get out and go straight for the sake of his son. His soft spot for kids sufficiently triggered, Mike springs into action looking for weak links in the ring.

All it takes is goading the team’s degenerate safe cracker into kicking Sam’s ass with the cops in earshot, and ta dah: Mike gets hired to take his place. Sure, there’s the small issue of a gun in the face initiation test and the problem of an inside man screwing up Mike’s notion to simply tip off building security, but such is spy life.

Come game time, Mike, Sam, & Fi work in perfect harmony to make sure things go south and make it all look like ring leader Tino’s fault with the help of a rather lovely explosion. Tino gets whacked, Trevor goes straight, Mike gets paid, life is good. Oh, and casing Carla’s digs ends in yet another taunting dead end and more of her trademark crossword puzzle meeting codes.

Also notably amusing: a C plot in which Sam’s love life takes a turn for the worse when his beloved Veronica pops the question to him, forcing the revelation of a still technically existent marriage from the 70′s. Sam, left out in the cold, is left taking up space in Mike’s flat. I see great potential in both Odd Couple humor galore and a potential celebrity stunt casting opportunity to play Sam’s wife. Here’s hopin’. All in all, a satisfying but relatively lackluster outing.

Season 2 has hit its stride, now they just need to work a bit harder to wow the fans.
