Entourage: Wading through the Aftermath

This episode finds the crew still reeling from Vince’s Hollywood hiatus as they wade through the aftermath of the debacle known as Medellin. Vince remains steadfast in his pursuit of a supporting role in Smoke Jumpers, but the producer of the flick has a bad taste in his mouth from Vince’s refusal to do the Aquaman sequel. Things are so bad that Turtle (gulp) is actually trying to find a job. I’m sorry, but when the world’s biggest leech is compelled to go out and garner a paycheck, you know that Vince is in dire financial straits! Always unflappable, Vince maintains a positive attitude, leaving the business end of things to Ari Gold, his irascible agent. Ari is Vince’s biggest advocate, going so far as to wager on his future in a round of golf with the producer. He loses a bet that would’ve landed Vince the role in Smoke Jumpers, but the producer ends up having a heart attack on the golf course, so Vince’s career may not be dead just yet – even though the producer is dead as a doornail. Meanwhile, childhood friend and former bodyguard Dom leads the police on a wild car chase, captured on live TV. While all this takes place Turtle has taken up work as Drama’s assistant, a task that proves as hilarious as it is difficult. Drama always had an inflated sense of self-importance, and he uses the opportunity to push Turtle to the edge, to great comedic effect. I like the direction the writers are taking this season, revealing a more humble side of Vince as he is forced to play the Hollywood game in spite of his purist thespian tendencies. At the end of the day, we know our boy Vince is going to come out on top, because that’s what superstars do. This episode laid the groundwork for what America loves more than almost anything: the comeback.
