Heroes: I Am What You Will Be

People are flipping sides like it’s no one’s business, and all I can ask is “WHAAAT?” I’m trying to only focus on each episode as it’s presented to me and not get too wrapped up in wondering how they’ll manage to explain everything that’s been thrown at us week after week. This one was definitely a throwaway, filler episode. It focused, primarily, on the Petrelli clan. If there’s a sordid family history that can complete with the Kennedys, or better yet the Romanovs, they’re it.
Peter remains restrained at Pinehearst. While at Primatech/Level 5, Angela psychically links to Sylar and asks him to aid his brother. She explains he doesn’t know the half of what he’s capable of and even calls him her favorite.
Back at Villains headquarters, Peter tries to escape, but Arthur and his powers are much stronger. Duh! He offers him to Mohinder, who can use Peter as the perfect test subject because his DNA is primed to accept abilities. Peter tries to convince Mohinder that, in the future, he believed doing the experiments were wrong, but when Mohinder learns his future self is still deformed, he continues on, believing it’s too late to help himself anyway.
Like a knight in shining armor, Sylar shows up save the day. Nathan really did get the short end of the stick in the Petrelli powers department. Peter escapes, but Arthur holds on to Sylar. He’s been waiting for this son a very long time.
Arthur uses his keen persuasion to convince Sylar that Angela’s the bad parent. They’re equally diabolical. There should be a poll on who’s the most lethal Petrelli. He says Angela is using Sylar as a weapon and everything she’s said is a lie. He tells a gruesome story about a vision Angela had when Sylar was born that was so horrifying that she attempted to kill him as a baby.
Peter, believing that it’s his duty to save his savior, returns, but it’s too late to convince Sylar. He throws Peter out of a window, but he survives with blood, bruises and scrapes. Is it because Sylar softened his fall?
In safe refuge, Peter and Nathan reunite, and he spills the beans on the live status of their father. Nathan, who’s too pragmatic for his own good, can’t believe this is true and decides to head to Pinehearst alone to see for himself.
Elsewhere in Heroes-verse:
Daphne explains that Parkman didn’t take the bait. Arthur suggests killing him, but Maury’s unhappy, as his cooperation was contingent on Parkman’s safety. Instantly, Maury is killed for insubordination. How creepy was Knox’s content look over Maury’s death while Daphne almost peed her pants? That’s the difference between good and evil, my friends. With orders to kill, Daphne finds Parkman, but he pleads to her with tales of their future together. Luckily, she can’t do it. Knox arrives, and in a classic Heroes switcheroo, Parkman uses his mental powers to trick him into thinking he’s killed them both. He then suggests they head to Primatech for help. Secretly, though, Daphne makes a call to Arthur to confirm everything’s going according to plan.
Claire and Sandra return home to find Elle there and no longer in control of her powers. Kristin Bell is like a shiny, new Slinky. I smile every time I see her. When Claire hears this, she believes the reason Elle’s on the fritz and she can’t feel pain is because there’s something wrong with them, and maybe Pinehearst can help. On the plane ride over, Elle overloads. When they start to plummet, Claire uses that pretty, flaxen noggin of hers and suggests Elle use her body to dump her extra energy. Claire, you’re getting smarter and smarter by the episode. I commend you. This, also, allows the two to bond. Claire and Elle arrive at Pinehearst in time to see Peter thrown out of the building, and while Claire and Peter hightail it out of there, Elle likes the idea of removing her powers no matter what’s inside those walls.
Realizing that Nathan and Tracy have him cornered, Mohinder grabs Maya and, literally, leaps off to Pinehearst. There, Arthur easily take Maya’s powers and enlists Mohinder to work on perfecting the stolen formula. (One power is willfully given, and it has to be the power to kill everyone around you!) To stab a knife in Mohinder’s heart, even though he helped cure Maya, she can’t trust him again and leaves the country. Forever, let’s hope.
Nathan and Tracy realize that the people from Primatech may be the only ones who can help them unravel the mess Mohinder created in his lab. He calls HRG for help. I loved the scenes between Meredith and Tracy. “I see [you've] still got a weakness for blonds,” Meredith says to Nathan. Have I mentioned she might be my favorite addition to the Heroes team?
Hiro wants to refrain from using his powers to save the world, butterfly effect and all. Instead, he takes African Isaac’s man-made spirit walk. Cloudy-eyed symptoms knock Hiro flat out like I’ve never seen before, and Ando, completely shocked, looks on helplessly and hopes Hiro will awaken.
Phew! Mucho happened this episode while so little time passed. Next Monday is a Heroes-less week, so I’m going to try to spend this freebie dissecting my thoughts on what’s gone on this season. All these heroes and villains and powers and power-snatchings really need some tender love and attention, so until next time!
Will you choose your own path or will you have it chosen for you? – African Isaac
Alright Dorothy. Then, we’re off to see the wizard. – Elle
Revenge is in the Petrelli blood. – Arthur
Season 3, Episode 7: Eris Quod Sum (originally aired October 27, 2008)
