Exclusive: Chuck at the NY Comic Con – Six Things You Should Know

Poptimal.com was given exclusive access to the writer, directors, and cast of NBC’s hit television show Chuck before they spoke on a panel at the 2009 New York Comic Con. Yvonne Strahovski (Sara), Josh Schwartz (co-creator), and Chris Fedak (co-creator) were in attendance.

The room was small, the conversation was fast-paced, and the jokes were flying.

Here are the top 6 things Poptimal.com thinks you need to know about the new season of Chuck (spoiler alert):

6.    Fulcrum: Not As Dumb As You Look.

Like many of our readers, we have wondered, what’s up with Fulcrum?  Don’t they know that the Intersect must be at the Buy More?  Not so, says Josh, who intimates that it will be revealed this season that Fulcrum thinks the Government is up to something different at the Buy More.  They are not as dumb as we have been led to believe.

5.    The Woman of Brewster’s Place.

As far as we can tell, there is a little speculation that Chuck’s love interest played by Jordana Brewster will be back sometime this season.  The writers were not specific as to how long the story arc would last, but who cares?  She’s hot, so we will take what we can get.

4.    Meet Jeff’s Sister.

Wait, what?  Jeff has a sister?  He sure does and she will be making her way into the Buy More to mix it up a bit with the cast.

3.    Enter Chevy Chase.

We kinda forgot that Chevy Chase was still alive in Hollywood but he may have been resuscitated in the world of Chuck.  Josh and Chris openly admit that they have a cult-like fixation on the movie Spies Like Us and it has acted as inspiration to some of Chuck’s bumbling spy antics.  In tribute, Chevy Chase will make an appearance as a CIA spy determined to get Chuck in the game.  Is he good or bad?  The Writers will not say.  But, he knows more about Chuck than even Chuck knows, and that has been let on to the audience thus far.  As usual, Chris Fedak smirks and says, “nothing is by accident in this show.”

2.    Scott Bakula Makes A Quantum Appearance.

Sci-Fi favorite Scott Bakula will show up as Chuck’s long lost father.  It seems Chuck uses his new spy connections to find his dad because his sister Ellie wants him to be at her wedding.  Of course there is rampant speculation that like everyone else in Chuck’s life, his father was a secret government spy that had to flee and hide out to protect his family.  This rumor has been bolstered because Bakula seems to have an existing relationship with Chevy Chase’s spy character.  Sounds a little formulaic.  Well, Chris Fedak says don’t be fooled into thinking that is the case at all.  And we know/hope that the writers are more clever than that.

1.    Season Finale Will Be A Game Changer.

Josh Schwartz let on that he and Chris Fedak wanted this season of Chuck to end with a bang that will organically change the storyline.  So to reach this goal, they agreed at the beginning of the season that no matter what happens through the remaining episodes, the season finale would be a game changer for Chuck.  When pressed, they would not say what exactly they have in mind, but they let on that it’ll be something that will change Chuck’s life and existing relationships with his family and friends.
