Comic-Con 2009: Bones

The creator and executive producer of Bones, Hart Hanson, and lead actress Emily Deschanel, arrived to speak about the show on Day 2 of Comic-Con 2009. David Boreanaz was unable to attend this year and sent a video instead. He was in Los Angeles because his wife is 34 weeks pregnant with their second child, a girl.
Despite the spoilers promising that Brennan and Booth would be hitting the sheets last season, it was always the plan for it to be a fake-out. Hart said that the season finale was a “love letter to fans,” but acknowledged that while loyal viewers liked it more than others, they still were not necessarily “enchanted” by it.
While in the hospital, Booth was asking what version of her she was when he asked, “Who are you?” He was unsure if Brennan was the same as before or if it was all in his mind. He did not know if they were married and was very confused.
When the moderator asked if the audience wanted to see B&B together or not, it was impossible to tell which side made more noise. Emily believes that they belong to each other, but noted that it would be tricky and they do not want to lose the sexual tension. She would prefer that they get together towards the end of the show.
The season premiere picks up 6 weeks after the finale. In the meantime, Brennan has taken off to Guatemala to avoid things. Among other subjects, the episode explores whether or not Booth is ready for work.
Interesting facts and teasers:
- Booth’s frozen sperm will be addressed in the next season. Brennan wants to be a mother, but some things need to be addressed first. Since Booth was reticent about having the child, her interest may have waned because of it.
- David is expected to direct the 100th episode, which Emily was not aware of. She likes working with him as a director because he is so “happy,” “excited,” and “good.” She is also interested in directing.
- Both Emily and David have sung in episodes. His was “awesome in an interesting way.” Emily sang “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” which she did not think was a good choice for her character. Unfortunately, due to the writers’ strike, neither Hart nor anyone else could make changes to the script.
- Cyndi Lauper will be guest starring as Angela’s psychic. She may “see” Brennan with “a certain man” and is involved with a case. Her character leads them to where bodies are buried, but they want to know how she knows and if she is involved.
- Emily is very pro-animal rights and “is a good influence on the show.” They have taken some of her opinions and given them to intern Clark Edison.
- Emily likes working with Brendan Fehr (Jared Booth). She thinks there is an interesting dynamic there and that it helped deepen her relationship with Seeley Booth. Hart says that they are not done with him yet.
- Tamara Taylor (Camille Saroyan) is the most squeamish member of the cast, according to Emily. David is kind of squeamish, but it is more of his character’s trait than the actor’s.
- They would love to have Eric Millegan (Zach Addy) back, but the actor has a very full life and is working in musical theater. If timing and budgetary issues work out, though, they want to have him back.
- The Gravedigger’s trial will occur in episode 5 or 6 of the new season. Since not a lot of evidence survived, it is likely that what Brennan wrote in her goodbye note will surface as evidence in the case.

Bones, I love this show so much. And Emily totally said it right, they belong together but it would be tricky.
I can’t wait for Cyndi to guest star, I’m totally looking forward to this.

I think Emily said it right they belong together but it would be tricky because you want to keep that sexual tension between them. The sexual tension is what really helps make the show and what really drives the characters and if they got together they would lose that.
Cyndi Lauper will be a great guest star and I look forward to the trail and how they will address the fact that it was all just a dream and where that will lead the characters through next season and beyond.
