Entourage: Running on E

Entourage Alexis DzienaEntourage is really meandering along this season. It is becoming a very ordinary series, which is unfortunate.  There’s little to no excitement, and it’s just not particularly cool anymore.  Don’t get me wrong, I have the attention span to keep up, but this show is not nearly as fun as it used to be. Maybe that’ll change next week with cameos from Tom Brady and Mark Wahlberg.  In the meantime, there aren’t too many significant developments to report, and I can recap the episode fairly quickly.

Andrew Klein is effing up. Big time. He called it quits with his office fling, but it seems he can’t move on.  Chalk it up to a mid-life crisis, but he’s making an ass of himself. Lizzie, the woman in question, has dealt with the affair’s end maturely and professionally, but Andrew is behaving like a smitten high schooler.  When David Schwimmer (great cameo, incidentally) takes a liking to her both personally and professionally, Andy can’t handle it.  This renders Ari virtually apoplectic at the prospect of muddying the office waters as well as rocking the marital boat with Mrs. Ari.  Andy leaves his wife and vows that his work will not suffer as a result.  If only we could say the same for the Gold household.

Turning to the boys, can I just say for the millionth time how much I hate Johnny Drama? He is the fucking worst. I know his douche-i-ness is supposed to be funny. It’s not, it’s tiresome.  He’s finally getting a love interest for ONE EPISODE of his tv show, and you’d think he was auditioning actresses for the lead role in an actual studio blockbuster.  He ought to be glad that part of his job entails making out with 30 hot models in one day.  If his last name weren’t Chase I’m not sure what he’d be doing. Yes, I’m hating. Someone needs to re-introduce Drama to a mirror.  After playing tonsil hockey all day, none of the girls pass muster.  At this point Drama delves further into idiocy by actually thinking Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman, or Rachel McAdams might be available to portray his love interest on a tv series, people. Laughing. My. Ass. Off. When his reality check clears, Drama asks Turtle if he can borrow Jamie Lynn for the part, a “name” actress. She agrees to do it, and I have to tip my hat to Turtle for being mature enough to go along with it despite his initial reluctance.

Slightly lower than Drama on the annoyance meter is Ashley, Eric’s new girl. She clings to Eric shamelessly, and he tolerates it because it’s easier to keep her around when no one else is knocking at his door, i.e. Sloan.  He can do better. Ashley keeps it real and gives him good professional feedback, but she’s tiny, pale, and annoying. I’d rather see her get served up as an appetizer to one of the vamps on True Blood than getting busy with E.  She encourages him to abandon The Murphy Group, since Vince is his only real client and he’s pretty much just wasting time and office space by showing up to “work” every day.

This was a decent episode, but I expect way more and I’ve been disappointed thus far. If the writers aren’t going to wow us with a great storyline every week, then they should resort to cheap tricks, I won’t mind! Have Vince get laid astronomically or buy some cool toys or travel to an exotic location or something. Anything is better than this.
