Entourage: The Sorkin Notes

*yawn* Somebody wake me up when season 7 starts. Entourage kinda sucks now. Not because it’s inherently horrible, but because the show used to be one of the best on TV and certainly the best on HBO. Now that distinction goes to True Blood, the best thing to happen to television since the advent of the remote control. But I digress. Back to Entourage and its high degree of suckitude.
The show has devolved from a fun, cool 30 minutes into a boring, plodding exercise in patience. Who cares that Vince has a stalker? It’s not being played for laughs or anything else remotely interesting. Nowadays you’re lucky if there are certain elements of an episode that are good. The good moments are few and far between and they are not enough to salvage each episode. The best things about season 6 so far are Tom Brady and Bob Saget. Pathetic! The magic is gone.
We used to feel like someone pulled back the curtain on an inner Hollywood sanctum – now we are just watching the boys go through the motions, and how boring it is. Why isn’t Vince filming a movie? I know they gave some random reason for his inactivity a while back, but that’s bullshit. Vince is the star of the show and a MOVIE star. That means he needs to be making a MOVIE or banging every starlet within 50 feet. SOMETHING.
Turtle is another example. I’m all for character development, but let’s liven it up a bit. You could always count on Turtle for a cheeba-induced wisecrack, as he and Drama exchanged hilarious barbs back and forth. Turtle has a girlfriend now so all of that is over. The only remotely interesting aspects of the show are Eric’s new job and Ari’s exasperating professional and personal relationship with Andy. But think about that for a second. Does it make sense that the most interesting part of the show involves some third-tier character, a miscellaneous buddy of Ari’s that works at Miller Gold? Hell no! By the way, this last episode culminated in stupidity with Andy driving his car through his house and getting arrested. That’s just stupid; I don’t even know what else to say about that.
Sorry for the rant, but this show has jumped the shark. It’s still better than a lot of other shows on TV, and I’m not saying that it’s unwatchable. However, I ask my fellow die hard Entourage fans: Where does this season rate in comparison to all the others? Remember when Vince was making Queens Blvd? What about Medellin? Remember that episode where Aquaman premiered but there were rolling blackouts and the boys ended up at a high school party? Classic! This season is dog shit compared to the rest. Who’d think a show about a gorgeous movie star and his buddies living the good life could be so boring? My how the mighty have fallen.
