The Future Looks Bright (For FlashForward)

flashforwardI have been complaining in recent weeks about the lack of activity that has gone on (or not gone on) in each new episode of FlashForward.  This week, however, I find myself being unable to express those same complaints.  Instead, I found this last episode to be exciting and filled with situations that made us rethink a few theories.

We first pick up where things left off last week.  Mark and Demetri were headed off to Hong Kong against Wedeck’s orders in order to track down the woman who informed Demetri of his impending murder.  Once they land they are greeted by a shady agent who tells them to head back home.  At the same time, we see the woman that the two agents are trying to find watching A Christmas Carol – you know, that scene where Ebenezer Scrooge is being visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future (Kind of cheesy reference to what this whole flash forward phenomenon is shaping up to be…more on that later).  Mark and Demetri are able to trace the phone call to a specific area and find a restaurant that the woman frequents after questioning its owner.

Back in California, both Simon and Lloyd hold a joint press conference to take responsibility for the blackout and the resulting deaths.  The crowds begin to get restless and out of control and the two men are quickly escorted out after an attempted assassination by one of the women in the audience who tries to pull a John Wilkes Booth.  The explanation of what exactly the men involved with this project were trying to accomplish was somewhat unorganized and unclear, but it seems that they were basically trying to recreate the same energy levels around during a supposed period of earthly creation.

Wedeck decides to bring in the two men for more information, but only Simon shows up.  At first watch I found their interaction to be a little sketchy in a way that Wedeck might have been getting information to help a cause different from the Mosaic operation.  After Simon begins to cooperate he is shown a picture of a laser in Somalia and he admits that he had created this prototype back in 1992.  However, this picture is from 1991, meaning that someone had already done what he had set out to do and had not taken credit for it (This is surprising because of Simon’s idea that all a scientist wants is to have their name remembered forever).  We are then to assume that D. Gibbons is responsible for this laser after a sketch of his face is shown to Simon.  Again, this whole time theme – maybe traveling through time somehow – is making more and more sense.  Is this going to be ABC’s winter version of Lost with the exact same mysteries?

flashforward2Demetri’s flash forward death is confirmed after Zoey realized that she was at his funeral and not their wedding, but I thought that it took her way to long to realize this.

Anyways, back in Hong Kong, Mark and Demetri are able to set up a meeting with the mysterious woman, Nhadra.  She is hesitant to give any details, but after finding out that he will be shot three times from close range, Demetri draws the conclusion that he will know his murderer.  Who will the murderer be?  The man sitting right next to him….Mark.  Mark throws an epic fit and grabs Nhadra, gun to head, and is quickly disarmed after the shady officer from the airport comes with a gun squad.   Not good news for Mark or his career – join the rest of us on the unemployment line…

Finally, back in Cali, Lloyd does his best, with the help of Olivia, to get Dylan to a new hospital after his safety is put into question.  An ambulance comes to take Dylan, but within a few quick seconds Lloyd is instead in the back of the ambulance being taken away after shots fired. And…….Cliffhanger.
