Greek: Terrible, Just Terrible

Monday night’s episode of Greek can easily be explained in one word, terrible. However, the episode’s wrongs were so bad that one word wouldn’t begin to describe the mental torment it put me through.  The episode had me questioning my well being, trying to figure out if I was being Punk’d, and banging my head against a desk in hopes I was dreaming; the last part being the most fun I had throughout the experience. What was so terrible about this episode? Let me break it down for you.

The storyline for this week’s episode revolve around a Greek softball game, Ashley looking for love, Rebecca and Evan’s relationship, and Calvin trying to get Rusty and Grant to become friends.

What I enjoy most about Greek happens to be the college life and maturity each character represents. While the maturity of the characters seem to be spot on for most episodes, Monday night’s episode threw it all away. What were the writers thinking when they decided to have Casey suggest Beaver as a possible love interest for Ashleigh? The whole storyline was doomed from the start and thankfully it didn’t last past this episode. All the jokes fell flat, especially the clichéd helping the girl hold a bat properly gag.

We get to see Evan and Rebecca on their first date where Evan learns that Rebecca does not believe in love. Evan, who seems uneasy about this, can’t seem to stop wondering if he was in love with Casey or not. Last season it was shown that Evan still had some sort of feelings for Casey, but by God can’t he let it go. Nope, not at all it seems. Later in the episode Gamma Psi and KT are playing Omega Chi and ZBZ in a Greek softball tournament for infamous blue ribbon points, which matter for house standings. Cappie wishes to win the game as revenge for Omega Chi getting his brothers expelled, but says he’ll throw it if Casey really wants him to. Casey decides her house is more important (Oh gee isn’t that what Evan said to Cappie) and takes the easy pitch for the win. I swear if this leads to another breakup and Casey and Evan getting back together I will scream. I hate it when writers retread storylines. I’m looking at you, Season Two of Gossip Girl.

The only storyline to shine from this episode was the newly formed Rusty-Grant relationship. Rusty comes to the aid of Grant when someone uses a derogatory remark. Grant is surprised to find it’s Rusty and not Calvin who comes to his aid causing a small, but not fully formed friendship to grow between the two.

My final complaint about the episode was the directing style. It felt as if they filmed the episode in one go without stopping for another take. The acting felt lackluster and the script was probably the worst the series has seen to date. If you’re a fan of Greek, this is one episode worth skipping.
