Our site has an agenda against black people? You obviously don't know who owns the site, who our writers are, who its editors are, or their academic pedigree (if that matters to you). We have a better crossection of America than any website you have visited, ever. I encourage you to check out some of our Pop Eds and our podcast the Jone Dome.

Just because our writers disagree with you doesn't mean they have an agenda, just a different view point. This is a pop culture website that makes allusions to relevant pop culture icons/events and, at times, attempts to use humor. If the humor is lost on you, so be it. If you don't like our style, don't read us and stay safe in the websites with which you agree and not challenge yourself. In any event, don't make ignorant comments about our website's or intent of its owners without even clicking on the about us page. It's a little silly.

Your aside about Jermaine illustrates a major problem with Idol contestants from all seasons. There's nothing wrong with a sense of entitlement IF YOU ARE IN FACT ENTITLED to it through talent, hard work, and recognition within your field. Grandiose statements about divine blessing, dismissal of any and all criticism, and over-the-top stage behavior are the behavior of a child, not a diva.

Could not agree more with this article. The guys can't hold a candle to the girls and for me, Siobhan is the best. I really, really like Cyrstal and it is really close between here an Siobhan, but Siobhan is so "off the charts" that I find myself looking forward to hearing her sing. I have never watched performances on YouTube, but I have viewed her videos quite a few times. She absolutely kills it. Everything. I can't wait for her to sing again...very cool.

I really liked your article. It seems we have the same sentiments when it comes to many of these contestants. I was totally blown away when Jermaine Sellers made out as if he were "the Chosen One". There are a lot of Christians who participate in American Idol and the only reason any of them will win is if they have the talent (and lots of friends). God is not the Judge of American Idol!

I totally agree with you. Casey's performance this week was a little bit below from his performance last week. I really hope he gets the right song and balance of his voice (if ever uses the guitar again). I really really want him to be in the top 12 and sail through the finale. Love him!

I always question when a black person is described as articulate as if it's some type of anomaly. Mr. Hall I know has graduated at least high school and if so should he be anything less than articulate? I highly doubt that the same words would be used in anyway to describe his white counterparts in the competition.

Your rude attempt to mock Derrick Watkins B.K.A. Fonzworth Bentley is just sad. Mr. Watkins is not only one of the better dressed men in entertainment, but also one of the more educated. Please note that he is a graduate of Morehouse College. That's why I prefer to read sites such as www.thenoireffect. c o m I feel they have a better grasp on reporting issues of the black community without an agenda to make a mockery of it like your site. Ugh.

I want to add that, after re-reading I noticed you said some things that seem positive about Siobhan, but the article almost seems to contradict itself at times and confuses me. Perhaps you are just interpreting idol, literally as it happened? Maybe it's just a point-by-point review, and I didn't quite connect with that. But I think what threw me is that her mo-hawk was one of your reasons to make Siobhan a 2nd. Might as well do the same thing for Crystal because of her dread locks. Notice, that I don't just singing on their hair, outfits, or looks. It's not America's Top Model. I think my overall frustration is that season 9 is just beginning, and we haven't even formed the top 12, and yet a majority of people think only Crystal is it. If that's the case, it will be a dull season. That said, sorry if I seemed critical, but I think too many people are being critical of idols for the wrong reasons. So maybe I was carried away.. And it seems you actually like Siobhan's singing/personality, but aren't sure... which is confusing, lol.

"She’s singing Kelly Clarkson’s “Walk Away,” and it’s light years ahead of last week, but I still can’t bring myself to care."

The problem Erin, is that a majority of the audience don't listen to each contestant fairly or get excitied over their singing ability. Instead they tend to follow what ever the current, popular, media buzz happens to be. No offense meant, but some people don't know how to pick, so they rely on the sheep around them. If I knew nothing about music or singing, and I wanted to impress in a conversation. I'd just say, "Crystal" to look good. And I'd bet that is what happens at every water cooler across America. I can almost bet that 90% of your decision to have Bowersox fever comes from things said, and hype that surrounds her. Or that she's an "Indy" girl, or what you've been told. You can't come back and say, "NO, it's vocal talent", because if you were basing it on that, you'd include Siobhan in that equation.

And most media outlets that try to report, seldom have the experience to know what to do, so they get a basic idea of what is popular and run with that. Otherwise, they'd risk looking bad for picking someone that isn't most popular.

Either that or there is something about Bowersox that reminds you of what you "THINK" an artist should be, or something based on her backing story. The problem for me is, again, that people don't just bother to listen. They get caught up in un-important details about the contestant. If you had truly payed attention, you would notice that Siobhan is very quickly changing the direction of idol. And that she sung with amazing accuracy, a very hard to sing Aretha Franklin song.

I'd be willing to bet that if challenged, Siobhan could quickly imitate Crystal's style and sound just like her. However, I have doubts that Crystal could do the same for Siobhan because she likely lacks the vocal training to do that. But to be honest, I am also a fan of Crystal. She's just not going to be 1st. Siobhan is my favorite because of the voice, that she's interesting and takes some unexpected chances. Crystal is 2nd favorite because while she is good, she will ALWAYS sound the same, week after week. She sings within a box that she can never leave. When I listen to idol, I base things on the SOUND of what I hear and how talented the singers are. Style, image and personality play into this as well, but it's secondary for me.

I think the reverse is unfortunately true with most viewers. Instead Looks, style and backing story come first. Then after that, vocal talent counts for a little bit of it. Sad really, but this article presents NOTHING new or an accurate view of the flow of things on Idol. Instead it's just a copy of ever other article out there.
