Review: “Dancing With the Stars” is Elitist!!!!

Having missed the Rally for Sanity and/or Fear, I just had to get out what I would have put on a sign had I been able to attend. Moving on…
On its 200th episode on Monday night, Dancing With The Stars pulled out all the stops and Bergeron was on his A-game, as expected. Sometimes I’m not sure if the fans or the participants are having more fun watching this show. All I know is that I am going to the gym. Starting tomorrow. Let’s get to the highlights:
Team Apolo: YES. I am in love with Apolo Anton Ohno and as a late fan of DWTS, I had no idea that he competed on the show before. Sign me up. This week, in addition to the individual performances and scores, the remaining 6 contestants were split into teams, dodgeball style, and had an additional team score added to their overall score. I feel like that was the most unclear description of the event, but basically each couple got two scores: one team score, one individual score, add em up and get the total out of 70. OK. My husband got to pick first so it was generally accepted that he had the good team and Kristi Yamaguchi got stuck with the losers, or underdogs as they were. Apolo’s team included Jennifer, Brandy, and Kurt. I think Brandy and Erin Andrews should have a battle for most annoying competitor. Woof. Overall, the dreamteam was a little sleepy for me. Sure they were all good and coordinated and you couldn’t always tell if you were looking at a pro of Jennifer Grey, but I was just feeling “meh” for some reason, and the song choice just made me wish I was watching the Glee rendition. Not so with the judges who were in love with this performance.
Team Kristi: Was the “losing” team by 3 points, but I actually enjoyed their dance a lot more, even though Bristol-oxymoron was on the team. I thought they had a lot more energy and MUCH better costumes. Now for the individual dances!
Kyle: To celebrate the 200th episode, this week’s individual dances were recreations of past iconic dances and the original stars came back to score the newbies. First up was Kyle and Lacey, doing Mel B’s paso doble (it is hilarious to see how I spell these dances on the first try btw), and I thought they were awesome. Kyle is so charismatic and seems to be stepping up his game. I still have no idea what he is from, but he and Lacey are a very entertaining team and I’m happy that they are sticking around.
Kurt: Boo. I’m over Kurt in a big way and he should have been the one to go this week if one had to be booted from Team Apolo. He and Anna had to do a tango and it was just blah– his suit didn’t match her dress, the music was terrible and his legs are like tree trunks. Woof. It seems like Kurt gets worse and more awkward every week so I don’t really know why he is still there and why the judges shower him with praise.
Bristol: Get out. OK, I give her credit for being on the show and clearlyyyyyyyyyy being out of her league, but everyone else in her league has been cut so it’s time for her to go too. There is NO WAY she is as good as Brandy or Jennifer, and she should have been the one to ultimately go home last night. Everyone keeps saying she is such a dream to watch, but I just feel so awkward watching her be uncomfortable and Mark be all up in her business. She and Mark recreated Kelly Osbourne’s dance which annoyed me because 1. Kelly is the bee’s knees 2. The dance was to one of my favorite songs and 3. the judges were way too nice to her. No way was their dance anywhere close to the awesomeness of Louis and Kelly’s original dance. Ugh. Why won’t people just tell Bristol, hey, it’s been real, but you are done. And go buy some condoms.
Rick: MAMA LIKE. He and Cheryl recreated Helio Castroneres’ (who?) quick step, and even though Rick looked like Jim Carrey in The Mask, his quickstep was perfect. Especially for a giant. Horror of horrors, Rick was kicked off last night to the deep disappointment of everyone with eyes. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?! My theory: a little too much Eliza Dushku aka the girlfriend in this week’s video. No one wants to know that the person they are lusting after is in a happy, committed relationship. Or maybe that is just the crazy interpretation. But whatever, I sense backlash. Rick Rick Rick, I’ll miss ya.
Brandy: Can’t even discuss. I hate everything about Brandy’s presence on this show. Everything she does is so fake to me and for some reason I take it incredibly personally. I am really pushing for her to get booted next week, even before Bristol. She just brings me down. Team Monica!
Jennifer: Duh, her tango was amazing. I love Jennifer and I think she should win, just because I keep forgetting she is 50, and then every time I remember I get a newfound appreciation for her, this show, and somehow Tom Bergeron because he is the best.
Brooke Burke: She can hardly hold the microphone in the right place at this point. Good dresses this week though.
Special Announcement: Skating with the Stars. That just happened. Discuss.

Can we have some dance name Bloopers next time, pretty please
The dance names/moves make me think of the ice skating maneuver names – leading us directly into Team Krisit — excellent observation about the energy.
The revisiting ‘classic’ routines was fun, but some didn’t fair so well as compared to the originals. Yay Jennifer, the 40+ represents!
I totally agree with Liz. Team Monica is the best. And, I think her review of DWTS was hysterical. Y’all take this shit too seriously.
Absolutely ridculous!
U want Brandy to go home when she is clearly (along with Jennifer) the best dancing celeb on the show!
I cant even comment on the utter nonsense of ‘Team Monica’ its not even relevant to ..um..anything? and as someone quite wonderfully stated that was in the past Im gonna say at least 1998 when that ‘beef-for-huge record sale-drama’ was even going on, so really.Come ON.
And to further solidify my opinion that your review has no merit whatsoever you then mention that ‘Kelly freakin Osborne is the bee’s knees’ – well, says it all for me really doesnt it? haha
Why did they bring politics into this? Well, I’ll watch the show, cause I love dancing. But I will not buy any products they are advertising on the show. The media is right wing and using the beauty of dancing to win votes for a party that cares nothing for human dignity.
While I think that Bristol should have been eliminated weeks ago, the constant trashing of her has become lame. The girl did not show up and demand to be on the show, she was invited by the program to participate. And a bad dancer sticking around too long is nothing new, they all shamelessly shill for votes on web sites and through family, friends and other celebrities they know.
Remember Jerry Rice finished ahead of Stacy Kiebler? Sabrina Brtan finisdhing 6th? Mario Lopez and Gilles Marini losing o Emmitt Smith and Shawn Johnson?
What insanity that Bristol Palin is still on the show. She has no personality. She has no rythym, she is like a dancing cow. And she does not even want to be on the show – she was crying last week that she misses her little boy and she misses Alaska. Believe me, Bristol, we wish you would be voted off and get to go home, because you are the worst competitor EVER on DWTS. I am so tired of you whining that they are making you strip naked and do dirty dance steps. OMG! Give me a break. You were the little huzzy who got pregnant – stop being such a phony. Like mother, like daughter. Please just go home and join the other mooses.
How on earthis no rhythm bristol still there. Her feet are like hooves. She’s a dancing cow. It’s ridiculous that she is still there and Rick is gone. What a fake show.
To Liz C. Hate to tell you old Girl but you hating on Brandy like an ugly girl.
You called it right till that side of you came out. Too bad you’ve just lost my respect and that of a whole lot of others
The fact tha Sarah Palin is dancing regardless of the fact that she finishes
last by the judges shows how sick the American mentality is. Why don’t they finish the revolution and split the country into two hate groups.
I loved Kristi when she was on the show. Her quick step was by far my fave dance I’ve ever seen on the show. Bummer her team didn’t win. I am rooting for Brandy to win. I know Jennifer is the one who everyone clearly wants to win, “the chosen one.” But I like to root for the one who I think deserves it, and I hope Brandy goes home with the trophy!
Mark is all over Bristol, and she’s clearly not comfortable. Maybe he could tone it down a little. The longer she stays, the less credibility the show has. I heard that some Tea Party web sites are posting the phone number for Bristol votes. It’s supposed to be a dance contest, not politics. Rick and Audrina should still be there. I can empathize with Jennifer and how her body is having a hard time. Considering the surgery and health issues she has experienced, I think she has a lot of courage. Wish the judges would dance so we can see what they’ve got. Wish Len were more open-minded. Giles and Mya were robbed. Too bad her partner didn’t give her a more complicated routine for the last dance. It was great to see former contestants on the 200th show. Giles is hot, hot, hot. Love Apollo. It sometimes really bothers me when people are dancing a tango or paso doble to music that is not Latin and doesn’t give them any energy. The music for Mel B and Maks was fine, but sometimes it doesn’t work. Tom is cool and unflappable, really like him.
Brandy whines and needs to win to get back on top. Jennifer’s in major pain. Bristol is bringing the show down. Tea Party voting her in for Mama. This is a real negative and the show’s cred is disappearing. Kyle is a doll and so are his abs. Rick should still be there especially Audrina. WTF! Kurt can’t dance but he’s a likable fellow. Tom is A++ and the best thing about the show. He deserves an Emmy. Brooke doesn’t need to “hang them out” and needs to know how to handle a mic. Len is old. Carrie Anne is good and Bruno is a HOOT! If Bristol stays on, it’s the end of the show.
Brandy is fake and triple so is Jennifer. They both need to go but Jennifer first. I can’t wait for that whiner to go.
I agree with everything you just said except I don’t think I would have been so rough on them.
Bristol should go home. Rick should still be there. Love Kyle. I don’t like Brandy but Jennifer and Brandy should be the last 2 standing. Kurt should go home after Bristol. Love Tom Bergeron. Don’t love Brooke.
What a Brandy hater….that whole team monica team brandy shit is so old grow up….they have!!!!!
I have always been a fan of dwts but am going to stop watching. Obviously the voting is fixed and the best dancers are eliminated and the poor dancers stay. It is no longer a dancing contest but a popularity contest!
First of all, Bristol Palin is not a Star!! The show is called Dancing with the Stars not Dancing with anyone off the street. The only reason she is on is because mommy got her the spot. I have talked to so many people who are going to stop watching the show because they believe it is rigged. They are sick and tired of Bristol and Sarah.
Keep politics out of it.
As Bristol Palin goes (Oh, I wish), so goes the intelligence of the DWTS voters. She is a minus zero in personality AND talent. I think voters are voting for her to stay on because THEY’RE MAKING A JOKE! She is NOT worthy to be voted worthy!!!
I’m sorry but your review of the show is horrible. Please don’t post another review! I understand that you are entitled to your own opinion, but everything you say has no merit. For instance, the fact that you want Brandy to go home next week. It sounds like you have a personal vendetta against her, because hands down she and Jennifer are the best contenders this season, and that’s evident in the top scores that they have received (Brandy has been the top scorer for the past three weeks in a row) and the fact that they have not been place in the bottom two…ever. okay, well Jennifer has, but never Brandy. So why is it you want her to go home do badly? And team Monica? First of all they aren’t even rivals, they are friends, and most importantly, Monica is not even or has never been a part of this show, so why are you even mentioning her? She’s totally irrelevant. Maybe you should stick to reviewing shows that don’t require any talent, say “I Love Money” for instance?
