Glee Review: The Glee Club is Falling Apart

For the past few weeks, Glee has been nothing but the Kurt Show. This hasn’t always been a bad thing – I do think Kurt’s storyline is very important. But at the same time, there are other members of Glee club. So it’s really funny when the writers use Emma Pillsbury (Jayma Mays) to chastise Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) for not letting the other Glee kids have their chance to shine.
Very early on it is established that the new golden couple, Sam and Quinn, will have the lead solos at sectionals. Santana will also get to belt a tune while Brittany and Mike show off their amazing dance skills.
Meanwhile, Kurt is adjusting to life as a Warbler. Yes, if you missed last week’s episode, Kurt made the decision to leave McKinley High. The main factor was because of the closeted gay bully who was continually harassing him. So now Kurt is with Blaine (Darren Criss) at the Dalton Academy and ready to put his mark on their Glee club, only to find out things are run pretty differently over there.
Rachel is also back to her lovely, whiny self. First, she throws a fit because “Barbie and Ken” are going to be the soloists. Then, Santana lets slip the secret that she and Finn hooked up last season. Not a good time to be Rachel, that’s for sure. It was pretty awesome, though, to see Schuester flip his lid over Rachel’s poor attitude. ABOUT. TIME.
Because Kurt’s gone, the Glee club needs at least one more member in order to remain qualified for sectionals. Schuester asks Puck, the “am-badass-ador” of Glee club, to recruit some new members. He tries, but fails epically. In the end, he does manage to bring aboard Lauren, another plus-sized student.
Unlike the New Directions group, the Warblers have a legit council that decides on the song selection. Kurt is also invited to audition for a solo part but he’s turned down after singing Don’t Cry for Me Argentina because they thought he was “trying too hard.” As Blaine later tells him, “Don’t you realize we all wear uniforms? Try to be part of the team.” I’m sensing a Catch-22 for our poor Kurt. Stay at McKinley and be mocked for his individuality? Or go to Dalton and be told to not express said individuality? Hmmmm.
Sectionals come around and New Directions is up against The Hipsters (aka a group of elderly, rocking performers) and the Warblers. Our Glee kids perform “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” and “Valerie.” And the winner is…….no one! IT’S A TIE! The Warblers and New Directions tie for first place and will both be going to Regionals!
I said it then and I’ll say it again: What a cop-out! I’m sure there’s good reason for this, and it will mean seeing more of the Warblers, but still. Snooze.
The episode closes with some dramatic relationship news. Number 1: Finn and Rachel split up after she confesses to hooking up with Puck after learning about the Santana situation. Number 2: Emma eloped with her dentist boyfriend, Carl (John Stamos)! Oh here it goes…

I thought it was a great episode. I have to say it was nice to see the other glee clubbers sing even though I LOVE when Rachel sings because she’s my favorite but the rest of them are a talented bunch and it should be shown off. I have to say that I’m glad the whole Finn/Santana thing came out he did lie to her face about being a virgin in last weeks episode she deserved to know. AND yay to the Finn/Rachel break up I prefer them both with anyone else but each other. They’re incredibly boring together and it got really, really annoying after even just the 5th episode in season 1. I hope they stay apart or even get back together just to realize that they’re not good for each other. They can be happy with other people. It would be nice to see them just be friends. I miss Kurt btw it’s weird not seeing him with the other kids hope to see him back soon!!
I watch Glee to hear Rachel sing. This years sectionals was boring, because Sam and Quinn are boring and were a bad choice for the duet. If they were going to have someone other than Rachel and Finn sing, then they should have picked Santana and Mercedes for the duet. The other song could have easily have been done by Artie or Tina.
The bickering didn’t interest me. Also who knew that Rachel and Finn would be so dull to watch as a couple. Thank god they broke up. I liked her better with Jessie. Plus the song choices with the exception of Teenage Dream have been really weak.
Also I found the whole Kurt and Dave drama to be the best thing about Glee this year, while I want Kurt to be safe and like his friendship with Blaine. I was expecting to see Dave’s reaction to Kurt being gone, this guy is clearly in love with Kurt. Seeing him go back to a one note bully with Puck wasn’t very interesting. From the moment Dave kissed Kurt I’ve been glued to my tv to see them together.
