TV Preview: Poptimal’s Most Anticipated New Shows

There have been few successful new TV shows this season so far (the action-packed Hawaii Five-0, hidden gem Raising Hope, and wildly popular The Walking Dead being the most promising).  They have, however, been overshadowed by the critically panned ($#*! My Dad Says, Outlaws), disappointing (Undercovers, Running Wilde) and prematurely cancelled (Lone Star, Terriers) shows.  Despite this, though, we here at Poptimal are optimistic that the networks have good programming in store for us this winter.  Here are the new shows we can’t wait to see:

Shameless: I love William H. Macy. I love Emmy Rossum. I love Chicago. I love Showtime. I will love this show. – Keshvar Alikhani

Okay, okay, I’ll watch The Cape. While I love my costumed vigilantes as much as the next TV nerd, however, what I’m really looking forward to is Episodes on Showtime with Matt LeBlanc playing “himself” as a washed up TV actor desperate for his comeback. The ability to make fun of oneself, if executed properly, can go a long way in Hollywood. - Erin Biglow

I have to say I am really excited to see how Episodes is. It could be really good or another Joey. I am really looking forward to the jokes about the difference between British and American TV. Seriously I am. – Gabe Callahan

Being Human on the Syfy Channel! This is the U.S. version of the popular BBC show and the cast looks fantastic! I’m excited to see how it’ll differ from the original. Also looking forward to Game of Thrones (HBO) and Camelot (Starz). – Nicole C.

Bob’s Burgers: A new animated show on Fox that revolves around a burger joint? Yoink, I’ll be taking that. – Adam Derosier

Being Human. I’m a huge fan of BBC3′s original series and can’t wait for the upcoming third season of that program. Still, I’m eager to dive into the parallel universe world of the U.S. remake on Syfy. From the episodes I’ve seen so far, the talented cast pull off the necessary chemistry between these paranormal roommates and a promising storyline has already started to unfold. – Josh Hatala

Falling Skies: Alien Invasion is the new craze, so this should be interesting. EP’d by Steven Spielberg. – Keith Kuramoto

Being Human: I’m not a huge fan of remakes, especially when the original is still on the air, but with a BBC America show as good as Being Human, I’m willing to suspend my reservations. – Inisia Lewis

EVERYTHING on Oprah’s new channel OWN, especially Your Own TV Show, Master Class and Season 25: Behind the Scenes. – Kelley Lynn

Game of Thrones (HBO): Anyone who has read George R. R. Martin’s A Games of Thrones will tell you this is one of the best book series they’ve ever read. What makes the series so good is Martin’s superb writing, plotting, and detail to characters. The world of Westeros is full of individuals with plans of their own. No one is safe and no one is who they seem. – Bilal Mian

Harry’s Law: Is it even possible that anything that Kathy Bates touches will not rock?! – Keshaunta Moton

Bob’s Burgers: Jon Benjamin is one of my all-time favorite voice actors and has a hand in so many productions right now. Not to mention I love so many of the supporting voice actors and actresses in this show like Eugene Mirman and Kristen Schaal. I’m rooting for this one! – Desiree Neal

Skins on MTV: The British version is big and the commercials look kind of like Degrassi. I’m not a Degrassi fan, but I’ve met people that love the show. I think all the drama seen on the commercials for Skins draws people in also. - Zarna Patel

The Cape: I think it looks like it could be a fun and unique new show. It doesn’t hurt either that David Lyons isn’t too hard on the eyes. – Allison Toner

I’m really rooting for Matthew Perry’s Mr. Sunshine, an upcoming mid-season replacement on ABC. The self-consciously aging protagonist was conceptualized by Perry himself, and I suspect that a lot of hope and heart went into the planning of the series. Let’s all give it a fair chance, shall we? – Lauren Tyree
