America’s Next Top Model Review: Archetypes, Autographs, and Alexandria

Whether you sign your name with a heart, a smiley face, or a couture clothes hanger with a red, hot kiss in the middle, this week’s ANTM has an archetype just for you!

After last week’s panel, Tyra met the girls at the Top Model House, sat them down, and gave them a lesson about fashion archetypes: bombshell (sexy models who can sell bosom holsters and the anti-granny panty to women everywhere), girl next door (fresh-faced, All-American girl whose cheeks shake from smiling so hard), edgy (the bully turned fashion model) and couture (super high fashion model who models clothes no one in the real world will ever really wear).  Kasia – couture, bombshell; Jaclyn – girl next door; Monique – bombshell; Alexandria – edgy, bombshell; Brittani – couture; Mikaela – couture.

Then she taught the girls about boundaries, designing a signature autograph, and fame.  “You want fame?  Well, fame costs, and right here is where you start paying – in sequin, shades, and signatures!”  After Tyra’s mini-challenge, Miss. J Alexander hosted the girls’ autograph signing challenge where the ego-trippin’ prize was a one-on-one dinner with Miss J.  The top models in the making were nice enough and greeted their random fans with all the warmth and genuineness that they could radiate from their pasted on smiles and genuine weaves.  Monique, the wicked witch of the West Hollywood, told a fan that she wouldn’t give him a kiss but maybe Alexandria would.  And you know what – she did!  Her prize – a new stalker!

Jonathan Mannion, photographer, shot black and white artistic photos of the girls covered in mud in two groups of four: blondes and brunettes.  Bleach blondes: Kasia, Alexandria, Molly, and Hannah.  Brown Brunettes: Monique, Brittani, Mikaela, and Jaclyn.  In the blonde shoot, even though Mr. Jay Manuel instructed Kasia to move her arm to a certain spot, Alexandria knew better and asked her to move it where it would work better for her.  Arrogant Alexandria abased?!?  Surely, you jest.  While photographing the brunette beauties, Jonathan stopped and shot Brittani individually, for Brittani was the “breath of life,” the goddess of the girls whose body posing moved Jonathan to his knees.

Tyra taught Alexandria the lesson that public education is teaching its 21st-century students: hypocrisy.  She warned Alexandria that she would be sent home if she tried to take over another photo shoot.  Either Mr. Jay Manuel decided not to be a tattle tale this week or the ANTM gods played a mean trick on the Send Alexandria Home Campaign, because Miss “Dreck-itude” committed the same crime for which she was warned, yet she lives on in the Top Model house to shoot another shot.

Sonia Dara joined Tyra, Nigel Barker, and Andre Leon Talley to judge the blondes and brunettes.  Tonight’s Top Model is Kasia the Couture who recognized all the models in Tyra’s mini-lesson, who won the fame challenge with Miss J. Alexander, and who was runner-up for best photo of the week.

Ding! Dong! The wicked witch of West Hollywood is ‘dead.’ Monique was sent home.
