USA Network's Summer of Originals Screenings: Pier Perfection
Ever wished you could pull up a comfy lounge chair, put your feet up and watch your favorite shows outside in the park? If so then USA Network is way ahead of you. The channel that touts, “characters welcome” can now also boast “badass summer screenings welcome,” after hosting a 3-day event on Hudson River Park’s Pier 46 in Manhattan. USA used the mini-marathon to showcase the premieres of their original summer programs before they begin airing this June. But, true to form for a network known for it’s clever shows and sexy delivery they rolled out the red – er, astroturf green – carpet and dished this summer event with style, fun and a little NYC attitude.
Audiences kicked back their flip-flopped feet May 31-June 2 in an open air theater set up – complete with VIP section and stunning skyline views – in front of a soaring projection screen on the pier. Music filled the breezy nights, freebies were handed out and guests enjoyed only the most quintessential summer snacks (popcorn and ice cream? don’t mind if I do…) courtesy of the folks at USA, Entertainment Weekly, and Haagen Dazs.
For the die hard television fans, the shows didn’t disappoint either. Returning favorites White Collar, Covert Affairs, Burn Notice, and Royal Pains picked up the action right where they left off last season. My personal favorite for entertainment value were Willie Garson‘s one-liners and scene stealing zingers as Mozzie on the new season of White Collar, but I’m probably biased (because, you know, Matt Bomer‘s not easy on the eyes at all). For the guys in the crowd, there was an equal helping of female eye candy in the form of Piper Perabo and Gabrielle Anwar, not to mention two new shows tailor made for the male mind, Necessary Roughness and Suits. Don’t worry ladies, you’ll dig these series as well, promise.
For the novice television viewer, I’d imagine the event still dazzled even if the story lines were unfamiliar. After all, who can say no to a few hours of gratis entertainment in a cool, laid back summer setting in the company of friendly and accommodating USA staffers? Not this girl. If it sounds like we at Team Poptimal were especially partial to this event it’s because it’s true – they knocked this one out of the park, pun intended.
So, even though the pop corn cart is gone and the icy drinks have all been kicked, you can still beat the heat this summer by pulling up your own spot on the couch to enjoy USA Network‘s cool summer season. New episodes begin Tuesday June 7th at 9PM. As always, for more entertainment events coverage, keep it tuned in to Poptimal.com.
