True Blood Review: Jason Stackhouse Is Ghostdaddy

It seems pretty ironic that for all the sex Jason Stackhouse has had in the last three seasons of True Blood he ends up essentially gang-banged by the women of Hot Shot. But he still has a sense of compassion as a majority of these women have never had the chance to be in control when they doing the deed and they’ve been abused by their own men. It seems like Hot Shot though is the epitome of bad southern stereotypes and I don’t know if I can take another cousin-husband or brother-uncle.
Jason though makes his escape when he convinces Becky to wait for someone special before giving up her virginity. She cuts him free and knocks out the old man who’s on guard. He manages to kill Felton who’s hunting him down and tells Crystal to stay away from him. Hoyt and Jessica luckily find him after he’s passed out on the side of the road from his injuries.
Portia Bellefleur has taken Bill to meet her grandmother Caroline and they engage in some Southern polite chitchat. But my hunch from last week comes true and Alan Ball and company did follow the books after all. Meaning Bill has committed incest by sleeping with his great great great great and possibly a few more greats in there, granddaughter. The Bellefleurs are descended from Bill’s daughter Sarah Compton. Gross Bill, that’s just gross. Needless to say the “honorable” Bill ends his relationship with Portia immediately.
In other news Bill is still looking for Eric and tries to get Pam to fess up. Eric is still at Sookie’s but has gotten drunk from ingesting all that fairy blood. The transformation of Eric’s lion like persona into more of a teenager continues to entertain this viewer. He pinches Sookie’s derriere and swims in the swamp pretending to be a sea god. When the effects of the fairy blood begin to wane and he begins to burn, he reverts into a young child again that Sookie feels inclined to babysit. It’s touching to see Eric show the sadness that he must have felt centuries ago when he first turned. As Sookie tries to find the right words to say to cheer him up, Eric promises that he’ll be happy if she kisses him. But just as they are about to, Bill comes a knocking. Ugh. Dammit Bill.
The king has come calling to search for his missing sheriff. He is about to enter without Sookie’s permission when she calls him out on why he won’t trust her when she’s never lied to him. This momentarily delays the inevitable and Bill is forced to back off. Who would have guessed that Sookie would ever lie for Eric Northman?
Lafayette and company in the meantime have been working with Marnie to figure out a spell to reverse Eric’s memory loss. By ghostly intervention, a book finally pops out from a shelf showing an incantation for those who have drunk from the river Lethe. In Greek mythology, Lethe was one of the five rivers in Hades and those who drank from it would experience full amnesia. That night, they form a circle begin the spell but as Pam is threatening Marnie, the ghostly witch takes over her body again. Marnie begins to spew out more foreign incantations and Pam’s face begins to melt.
This week we also learn a little more about Luna. Sam surprises her with an impromptu visit and he discovers that she has a little girl. Luna comes clean and reveals to Sam that one of the reasons she’s been so careful is that her ex is a werewolf and a mighty possessive one at that. She’s worried that anyone who gets close to her will be in danger. Sam isn’t scared so easily though and he’s determined to be in her life.
Tommy Mickens got what was coming to him. He decides to visit his mom after getting word that she finally left Joe Lee. But it was only a ploy to get him back under their control. What I don’t get is why can’t Tommy just shift into a bird or some other animal and runaway? Even if Joe Lee and Melinda lock him up somewhere, he can still shift into a fly the way Sam did to escape prison back in season two.
Lastly little Mickey continues to scare the bejeezus out of his parents by writing on the wall, “Baby not yours.” Perhaps it’s the ghost of Rene possessing his progeny.
True Blood continues to be its own wild ride and I’m glad that they aren’t sticking completely to the books. The multiple storylines can be an element that detracts from the series, but so far I’m at least not bored with any of them. Jason and the werepanther plot is interesting because I’m looking forward to seeing Jason join the supernatural community and how he’ll deal with that. Otherwise bring on the witches, shifters, possessed babies and dolls, fairies, vampires, and weres.
