Before we get to the amazingness that is Eric and Sookie’s scene in this week’s episode of True Blood, let’s do a quick recap of last week. Portia tries to convince Bill that incest is fine, he refuses and glamours her into believing that she’s terrified of him and has a uncontrollable urge to scream whenever she sees him. Good for you Bill! The men of Bon Temps must really be lacking for Portia to be totally psycho in trying to convince her great-great-great-great-great grandfather to continue their intimate relations. Pam is still super pissed off that her face is rapidly decomposing that she has to wear a veil to cover her face. Lafayette and Jesus head to Mexico to see Jesus’s grandfather, a powerful shaman that made Jesus kill a goat when he was little. Tommy killed Joe Lee and Melinda and ran to Sam for help. Arlene and Terry have Reverend Daniels and Tara’s mom come to their house to exorcise it of ghosts. Bill’s people kidnap Marnie, and she finds out more about the past of the witch Antonia. Tara flips out that Eric is living at Sookie’s house and Sookie tries to comfort Eric after learning about all the terrible things he did from Tara. We also get our first real Eric and Sookie kiss!
After that explosive kiss, things end far to soon though as Bill arrives after finding out that Sookie lied to him from Pam. Eric bows down to Bill after Sookie tells him that Bill is his king. She tries to convince her ex-bf to let Eric go but King B has some plans for his rival, true death. He lies to Nan about Eric being uncontrollable and not recognizing the AVL’s authority, claiming that the witch is controlling him. He is locked in a cell with Pam who reminds him that he is a Viking god and bows down to no one. They have a tender exchange where Eric tells his progeny that he doesn’t want to be the man he was and poor Pam must experience the loss of her maker that she knew and has been with for over a hundred years.
Bill gets his wish and is given permission to kill Eric. Eric takes his sentencing head on, saying that he has nothing to say for the barbarian he used to be but requests that Pam be released and to tell Sookie that because of her, he’ll die knowing what it means to love a person. He also tells King B that he hopes they find their way back to each other because Sookie still cares for him and she deserves happiness. This stuns Bill, not only because of the complete change in Eric’s personality, but I’m guessing it’s because he just got a good look at the pettiness of his own selfish jealousy. If he really loved Sookie then he would realize that she deserved to be happy, even if it wasn’t with him. This revelation frees Eric to reunite with Sookie, where they pick up where they left off and consummate their business in the forest. As an Eric and Sookie fan, it was kinda epic.
Speaking of the forest, it was full moon and Jason doesn’t turn into a werepanther. Aww shucks! I was hoping he would join the supernatural set. He did though get some one on one time with Jessica after she sensed his fear through their blood bond as a result of her feeding him her vampire blood. There’s obviously some attraction going on there, partially as a result of the vamp blood. Both, being loyal to Hoyt awkwardly try to push the sexual tension away. Goes to show the growth in Jason to be able to say no and not screw over his best friend.
Debbie Pelt in the meantime has joined the Shreveport wolf pack without telling Alcide. Looks like the old sneaky Debbie is still in there, which goes to show that a zebra can’t just change its stripes, or maybe you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. In any case she defends her actions by saying that isolation is bad for her sobriety, but isn’t she a bad example of what happens when you give in to peer pressure? The leader of the Shreveport pack doesn’t exactly look wholesome and full of goodness. Alcide is forced to run with this new group of wolves during full moon and that’s what you get for taking back Debbie Pelt!
Tommy, having killed his mother, gains the ability to shift into people. So if Sam had killed Melinda first, then he would have gotten this ability? SOL Sam. His younger brother decides to walk in his shoes for the day and manages to fire Sookie and take advantage of Luna, who thinks she’s having sex with the real Sam. Looks like the shift isn’t permanent though, as the full moon does seems to force him out of it and into a pile of his own vomit. Way to screw your brother over Tommy.
In Mexico, Jesus and Lafayette meet with Jesus’s grandpa. I’m not exactly sure what happens but Jesus brings up an offering of a snake and then during the ceremony grandpa has the snake bite Jesus. Then Lafayette gets possessed by one of Jesus’s uncles and he is able to recite an incantation that heals the snakebite. How this protects them exactly I have no idea.
Speaking of witches, Marnie becomes fully possessed by Antonia the witch by the end of the episode. Marnie/Antonia comes face to face with one of the vampires that tortured and raped her in Spain back in the day and she is able to control him. She mentions though that he had screwed up her previous body, so does this mean she might be an even older witch than that time? If she was reciting an ancient Greek spell that wiped Eric’s memories then perhaps she is even older than that. Her plan though may be to wake all the vampires during their morning sleep and to make them walk in the sun.
Onto another supernatural incident, Arlene and Terry’s house gets burned down with baby Mikey already sitting outside across the street from the house. Arlene is freaking out big time and as she carries him we see something that’s making the baby laugh. It looks like the ghost of an African-American woman. So its not Rene haunting them after all. Her identity still remains a mystery.
The most limited storyline of the night though had to be Tara’s. Her girlfriend learns of her true identity and high tails to Bon Temps to find out the truth. Tara comes clean and they kiss and make out, I mean make up, well make out too. It’s short lived though as Pam appears and is about to get her smack on. Poor Pam really though, I hope she gets her face fixed because she is too pretty to spend her afterlife decomposing.
What a great episode mainly because it was extremely satisfying to see Eric and Sookie together at last. Ominously Gran contacted Sookie via Marnie last episode saying that this wouldn’t last. Oh gran say it ain’t so!
