The cult classic Clue is coming to a new generation. Yes, you heard that right. Thanks to Family Channel and Nickelodeon’s The Hub, Ms. Peacock, Colonel Mustard, Professor Plum and more are coming to TV and with a definite twist as our favorite characters are fleshed out as teenagers. If you’ve ever wondered what Mrs. White was voted for in her high school yearbook then here’s your chance to catch up with our favorite guilty suspects in a five episode mini-series the whole family can enjoy titled, what else, but Clue.
Recently, Poptimal.com had the chance to talk with Ana Golja who portrays Liz (aka Scarlett) on the new Clue. And in our interview, Ana tells us all about the fun loving Liz, her love for Scarlett and also why she’s a very blessed girl.
Keshaunta Moton for Poptimal.com: Can you tell us about your Ms. Scarlett?
Ana Golja: Liz is very free-spirited and attention seeking and she’s a bit of a flirt. She is based on the iconic Ms. Scarlett from the board game.
Poptimal.com: Have you played the board game?
Golja: Yes, I have definitely played the board game. It is very funny because when I played I actually chose Ms. Scarlett.
Poptimal.com: I think Ms. Scarlett’s popular, that was my favorite as well. So how was it as a fan of Ms. Scarlett to portray Scarlett?
Golja: It was really amazing because I got to bring her to life.
Poptimal.com: You bring a different Ms. Scarlett; your Ms. Scarlett is a teen version. In which way do you think that the teen Scarlett differs from what people may believe as the perception of the older Ms. Scarlett?
Golja: This version of Scarlett, Liz, is very innocent. Everybody sees the older Ms. Scarlett as a bombshell and she’s sexy, but Liz is not like that. She doesn’t draw a lot of attention to her looks. She doesn’t try to be sexy. She’s attractive because of her free spirit.
Poptimal.com: In what ways do you think you are like Liz?
Golja: I’m like Liz in the way that I have a very positive outlook on life. I have fun and I am fashion forward.
Poptimal.com: What has been your favorite part of filming Clue?
Golja: There have been so many moments, I can’t really choose. It was just amazing to be able to work with such an amazing cast and creative team. I was really blessed.
Poptimal.com: So you’re a singer, dancer, actor, and from what I hear extremely smart as well. So, what’s your end game in sight?
Golja: I really want to do everything, anything that I can get my hands on. I’d love to do feature film. I’d love to be on Broadway, television, everything. Of course have my own album. What I wouldn’t want to do!
Poptimal.com: What artist out there would your album be like? Would it be like Pink, or Britney, or neither?
Golja: I have a very jazzy voice so my album would be jazzy with a pop twist. I would say a bit of Adele, but I have a strong voice like Lady Gaga and I’m very theatrical like Lady Gaga.
Poptimal.com: You’re also on a show called What’s Up Warthogs?
Golja: Yes, we just finished filming the second season actually.
Poptimal.com: What can fans expect to see in the second season?
Golja: They can expect to see a lot more gags and basically a whole new show. The second season just has a lot more life; the costumes, the hair, the makeup, everything is incredible.
Poptimal.com: What can we expect to see from [your character] Laney?
Golja: She develops a little bit. She’s starting to learn as she’s going through her experiences in high school and watches her inspiration Victoria. Victoria is Laney’s idol pretty much.
Poptimal.com: What would be your dream role?
Golja: I would love to be in a drama, really challenge myself with a character that is completely different from myself and really sink my teeth into that. I would like to do an adaptation of a Jane Austen novel.
Poptimal.com: To me, Jane Austen’s the best. So you get a thumbs up for that. Which is your favorite adaptation?
Golja: I would say Pride and Prejudice, the one with Keira Knightly.
Poptimal.com: Why did you decide to go into acting?
Golja: It all started when I was actually five. I was on stage for a dance recital and I really loved the music, the audience, and the fact that everyone was so happy and clapping. Just the whole experience. I think it was right then I knew that I wanted to do this for the rest of my life.
Poptimal.com: And how supportive were your parents about this?
Golja: My parents were extremely supportive. Actually it was my mom who found the camp, an acting camp that had a dance program. She initially signed me up for the dance portion of it, then I learned about the acting and really enjoyed it. So I’m very lucky to have their full support.
Poptimal.com: What’s been your favorite moment so far?
Golja: It’s so hard to choose. It’s really hard to compare. I would say Clue because of not only the cast and crew, but getting to work and being a part of such an iconic thing. Also The Sound of Music where I performed for Sir Andrew Lloyd Weber.
Poptimal.com: How was that?
Golja: It was amazing. Amazing. It was really a dream come true.
Ana Golja’s Favorite 5

Favorite book: Pride and Prejudice

Clue has already aired twice on The Hub, and if you haven’t been fortunate enough to catch it then, lucky for you good things come in threes and you’ll have another chance to catch it this later this month. Check out Clue as it re-airs Monday, December 26th at 7 p.m. Eastern/4 p.m. Pacific.

About the show What’s Up Warthogs, the show is O.K. But the dubbed in laugh track is totally annoying. The people who insert the laughing need to know that not every line is not funny. Actually all of the shows on Family/Disney channels STOP the laugh tracks!!!!
