Happy Thanksgiving from Poptimal! TV Specials to Watch

Happy Thanksgiving, Poptimal readers! We have a lot to be thankful for this year in the realm of television. Not the least of which are some of our favorite Thanksgiving-themed episodes that we like to watch year after year, helping make those dysfunctional family dinners just that much more bearable.

Our writers chimed in with some of their favorite Thanksgiving episodes, and we want to hear from you, too!

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving

Any Peanuts holiday special is a no-brainer, but did you know this year ABC will be celebrating “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving’s” 40th anniversary? That’s right – you can catch the half hour special beginning at 8:00 p.m. And since this is such a special year for the Peanut’s cartoon, ABC will also be airing another special: “This is America, Charlie Brown: The Mayflower Voyagers” right afterward.

Writer Kelley Lynn and TV Co-Manager Keshaunta Moton chimed in about why they love this special so much:

“I love the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving special, especially how nobody seems to have any parents, and they all eat Thanksgiving dinner made by Snoopy and Woodstock, which turns out to be toast and popcorn!” – KL

“I refuse to do any holiday without good old Charlie Brown. Thanksgiving, Halloween, Arbor Day…. Can we get an Arbor Day themed episode? Whatever it is, it’s always better with Charlie.” – KM

Cheers: Thanksgiving Orphans

This one’s an oldie, but a goodie, also recommended by Kelley Lynn. Your aunts and uncles might even want to join in and watch it with you! Ah, family bonding.

On this fateful Thanksgiving, the gang all gathered at Carla’s house for dinner. The dinner is a bit of a drag until a spoonful of mashed potatoes is flung at Diane in the middle of one of her long-winded monologues. FOOD FIGHT! The rest, as they say, is history.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Writer Torrey Kim is a fan of this season’s Thanksgiving episode, which also happened to double as the show’s ninth season finale. The goal of the episode was to have the “Always Sunny” gang “squash” their feuds with guest stars from episodes past by inviting them to Thanksgiving dinner. Imagine all your enemies in one room. There’s really only one way this could end. Yeah, FOOD FIGHT!

Friends

Is there a Thanksgiving episode of “Friends” that wasn’t just plain awesome? Of course everyone has their favorite, from the return of Brad Pitt in season 8 to Monica’s turkey head (and dance), there’s no end to the laughs. And guess what – you’re in luck! TBS will be airing a “Friends” marathon with all ten Thanksgiving episodes on Thursday beginning at 10 a.m. Very funny, indeed.

Now it’s your turn: do you agree with our list? What are your favorite Thanksgiving specials? Tell us in the comment section below!

And Happy Thanksgivukkah!
