Was disappointed that it was filmed in the blair witch style, great film, reminds me of akira , actors were fantastic and the storyline was believable. Highly recommend but would have loved to have seen this shot differently as i cant stand the blair witch style but thats just personal opinion.
Score
8/10

I totally agree, Bilal. As someone who enjoys a good scary movie but not gory slasher films, this one hit all the right notes. There were a few cheesy moments, I agree with Desiree, but for the most part the atmosphere lent the perfect amount of chill to the scenes and the story unfolded into something sufficiently eerie. I, too, was surprised by the ending - something that's not all that easy to do, given the amount of movies we all see.

Yes, Kipps had some major balls. If the things that went bump in the night hadn't sent me running (they would have) those deranged, old-fashioned toys would have done the trick.

Nice review. :)

Comment on Fringe Review: Double the Astrid, Double the Fun by Observations

I enjoy reading your recaps.

I am from the side that really wants to know about Olivia Dunham, her family history, and whatever we will get will allways be far to little far too late, compare to the Bishop soap.

And if Olivia Dunham is still waiting for her family to pop up, so was Astrid until 4.11.
Question to the writers:
What would be the harm if two women, Astrid and Olivia, who lost their mother to cancer when they both were young would talk about that?
AltAstrid coming to this side after losing her father, nice touch, but why does she have to give a peptalk to Walter about his son?

My major problem with Fringe (besides the overwriting of the Bishops): there seems to be only one great pain and grief and that is Walter losing his son, everyones elses is inferior.
Does not matter if AltAstrid so young lost her mother and now her father, or Astrid her mother or
Olivia Dunham not having a childhood just abuse, abuse and death and death and a bit more abuse.

BTW Will Fringe ever deal with the abuse of children for science part?
Last week for the first time Olivia attacked Nina for that, not Walter, but for the rest?

The kidnap part was just mentioned in the beginning, and big mistake to use old footage, as Olivia was prisoned, as herself, not pretending to be Fauxlivia, and Fauxlivia used a wig in One Night in October (stil the best epi) did not have a blonde Fringe, and there was no Peter, so Mata Hari who?
And how did the kidnap happen with all that security? Olivia does not know she can cross over?
But I loved Fauxlivia for bringing life in the lab, from the moment Walter called her Mata Hari, she decided to play the game.
AltAstrid and Fauxlivia managed to get at Walter, so first time not he is not drowning in selfpity or a selfcentered child.
Astrid and AltAstrid : not sure if the writers wanted to suggest that a distant father can influence the behaviour of the child, since Asperger/Autism has been linked to that.
Astrid had a warm father, living at home, in season 4 in another timeline.
And I know everyones love to love Jasika Nicole, but AltAstrid and Astrid was not really interacting, and AltAstrid was the lines she was saying, and those lines were the emotion, but as usual people confuse that.
Compare this to Olivia versus Fauxlivia, if you watch them without sound you still see whats going on, that for me is truly amazing double acting from Anna Torv.

Since I am a bore probably: final observation:
AltAstrid is tagged with Asperger, so she does not need to have expressions , nor show emotions, it gets praise. But Aspergers exists in different variations.
Compare that to Olivia Dunham after the pilot, trauma, closed off, introverted: no understanding at all from Americans for the character Olivia or the actress Anna.
While really if you had watched the pilot, you could see where she came from, and understand that that was brilliant acting from Anna Torv, especially since she never got the backstory and scenes to explain herself, just some facts along the way.

Conclusion:
Tagging or labelling seems to justify behaviour, but it has to be a medical term.
Americans seem to have a problem with people who are introverted, shy, it is not excepted unless you are diagnosed as having Aspergers, etc.

I noticed a tweet of Jasika, whose sister has Asperger as everbody will know by now, and she was angry because someone called AltAstrid closed off, I find that very strange.
Apologies for my rambling, but the Asperger bit has been made so important that is actually gets annoying.

I caught this movie on Friday and enjoyed the hell out of it. The movie was very atmospheric and had the spooky feel throughout.

I do have to say Arthur Kipps must have the balls the size of Texas. I swear any normal person would have ran away at the sight or sounds of what was going on in that house. Not him.

Also, he's a bit of a procrastinator =P

Brava! Loved your review of 'Smooth Criminal,' 'Human Nature, and 'Scream.'

The bow speed in 'Smooth Criminal' blew me away. The cellists, Luka Sulic and Stejpan Hauser, left me speechless. The speed and breath of their bows, as they played a re-imagined version of 'Smooth Criminal,' was nothing short of amazing. Ah mio dios, it was utterly brilliant! Where did Ryan Murphy get these guys? They're incredible!

'Human Nature' was another M.J. song that swept me off my feet. Amber Riley and Chord Overstreet harmonious version of this song was breathtaking. I expected Ms. Riley to use her close-harmony style of singing to highlight some of the song's nuances but was shocked (and pleasantly surprised) to hear Mr. Overstreet stay in key with his singing partner. They pulled off a memorable rendition of 'Human Nature,' and when the subtext of their characters' story is added to the song, it made it all the more enjoyable. I ended up listening to it for hours, much to my surprise.

Last but not least, 'Scream' showed off Kevin McHale's other hidden talent, dancing and I absolutely loved it. He and Harry Shum Jr. were spectacular. It was an incredible performance; and yes, Harry Shum (or should I say, Mike) wearing eye-liner and uncomfortably skin-tight laytex suits was totally hot, lol.

Anyway, again, I loved your reviews. They were spot-on!

Anna Torv was great in this episode! She's become such an anchor on this show, I'm amazed at how different it's become since the first season.

Surprised you didn't like Emily! I thought she did a good job with an overly familiar storyline. While the standalone was a little woh-woh considering how few episodes we might have left exploring the Olivia/Peter/Walter stuff, this one was pretty good at addressing how Olivia is handling the Observer news. Plus the relationship with Nina is becoming more prominent.

Our take here: http://wp.me/p1VQBq-n6

Cyndi and I spent a couple of days in Aspen a couple of years ago. Yes, it is quite beautiful. You need to come see us, Kelley! But until then, great review as usual. Keep up the good work!

There is a lot to be entertained by here but there is also way too much that we can’t actually take seriously and it actually ends up being more of just a silly thriller that has a good cast, that doesn’t really do much. Good review. Check out mine when you can.

The only thing miscast in this movie was the 1953 Buick. Its a nice escapist movie, that I frankly enjoyed more than some movies that are picking up the awards now.

The part of Ranger was terribly mis-cast, making the movie tedious to watch. Daniel Dunjata was just too much of a "pretty boy" for the part, and I felt, did not play the character the way he was portrayed in the 18 books. I had always thought that Dwayne Johnson would have been perfect for the role. Now that I have seen this guy play the role, I will never even read another one of her books, as his image will come to mind. To grossly mis-cast one of the pivotal characters was such a shame. (example: in the books, Ranger rarely smiles...)

Great review, Kelley!! I miss Simon's influence in the show for sure. And yes, Colorado is beautiful. There are some really talented people, but I wish that it was reserved for unknowns too. And, please do throw both annoying girls into a lake. Please.

I miss the old audition format, a lot!!

Great review, Kelley! I'm not a fan of this new, kinder-gentler Idol. I think it is a little mean spirited to showcase people for being weirdos - I'd rather just laugh at them for being spectacularly bad singers. When they layer on all this schmaltz it is a little surreal when they suddenly start mocking someone. Takes a lot of the fun out of the auditions. That said, there are some terrific talents coming on board, should be a great season!

I agree that some things are obvious BUT there's always going to be a few things we see coming due to the fact that these are, at their center, stories we all know - no matter how many different ways the writers come up with for the tales to BEGIN, we all know where they end, right?

Totally agree with you about Emma, though. They need to step up their game when it comes to her, and give her something real to do.

The reveal that the mirror was the genie in the lamp was inspired, but the fact that his final wish imprisoned him in it was far too obvious (as was the fact that Regina was playing him and that they were working together in Storybrooke). The writers need to stop taking the easy/obvious way out and they need to give Emma an emergency brain transplant because she is getting dumber and dumber.

It is embarrassing to see intelligent black women fight on television. Sheree, you have kids that are old enough to understand your behavior on tv. Think about them and the kids st their school teasing them about your behavior.

Cynthia, this is all your fault. If you would have stay quiet, this would have never happen. Sheree and Marlo are arguing about materialistic things. Money cannot buy you love and happiness and family. Beauty fades. Without make-up, you guys would not look like anything. Grow-Up.

My favorites are Kandi and Phaedra and Cynthia. The rest of you should gtow up.

I nearly gave up Fringe, and only watched this episode thanks to the sneak peeks.
I agree with everything you said, and I truly hope that Olivia Dunham will become active and central the rest of the season.

Olivia Dunhams backstory is the biggest secret on Fringe, so many questions, we need finally the focus on that.

With Olivia and Nina: I think that because we have no idea how their relationship was before Nina was shown to be evil, we should not think that Olivia here was really believing that Nina was her closest thing to a mother.
I do not want Olivia as the ulimate victim, so my theory is that Olivia plays Niná's game. She seemed not to like Nina standing in front of her door, yet later declares her love, but directly mentioned the migraines, she had them before, may be she suspects Nina is behind them?

Why does Olivia go to the FBI doctor and pay for pills, when Nina gives them for free? (Olivia's face at the end, for me )
And in episode 4.01 she told Lincoln she was looking for Answers, with the FBI, and she confronts Nina, here and also in Wallflower.

We know, (I know Olivia is so spread you have to write it down,) that Olivia's mothers funeral was paid by a company of MD/Nina, Nina responsible for Olivia's mother death?

I have this feeling that Olivia, apparently damaged severely as a 14 year old (why o why is Olivia not allowed to tell us how that was?) knows how to survive and since she was raised by Nina, she may have learned some of her tricks along the way, as well as knowing that being dependent on someone is knowing how to please someone.
And I remember how she reacted when Lincoln asked about the photograph.

Problem is Olivia is so much reduced to those bits of info, we can only hope they will go all Olivia central later on. And it would be more exciting to see an equal Olivia versus Nina, then Olivia being her victim, I mean Olivia killing a stepfather, beaten as a child, (we have to guess how awful, but if Nina says it was awful, it must be), mother dying, now Nina dosing her and on top of that mr nice Observer saying she has to die.
BTW I think that mr. X is actually the ability through cortexiphan, both in Wallflower and here the special children die, so Olivia as well?

I love this Olivia Dunham as the other version, all thanks to amazing acting of Anna Torv.
We had the Bishop soap mostly until now, now for what could be the last season of Fringe, high time for the Dunham drama.

Eric, I totally get and sympathize with you and your low, near-elementary reading comprehension skills, but that doesn't mean you have to take it out on everyone else.

If you did read the article in full and processed what has been written, you would have noticed that I make no such claim that The Artist is not worthy of Best Picture. In fact, I liked the film and said so. I'm just calling it out for what it is in the most cynical definition: Oscar bait. The Weinsteins are notorious for it and even though they didn't have a huge hand in the production of The Artist, you can bet they are doing some book-cooking and hustling to make sure they get their gold. They've even doubled their efforts this year with The Iron Lady.

My "ramblings", as you call them, for Drive are actually not that at all. I'm merely stating facts about its critical success and if you are compelled to ignore all that raw data, much like the Academy has done, then that is your prerogative.

If you can't see how Tarantino's films like Pulp Fiction or Kill Bill are throwback films in the way they handle and pay homage to the genres that birthed them in the EXACT fashion as The Artist has done with its respective genre, then really you probably shouldn't be critiquing or analyzing films at all because it's as clear as day. Everyone should like what they like, but to say that the sky isn't blue when everyone can see that it is just makes you look prideful and dumb.

Awesome episode and great review...I have to agree on almost everything, Anna really rocked the new Olivia and omg Nina making a soup for her!.

I didn't liked how the Duncan character played out...I'm not sure if it was the actor or the scene, but something was odd with him.

Next episode I think will become a "must see several times" one, between the Olivias and Astrid is a 10 for sure ;)

You make a raunchy, exhausted, and amateur end to your claim. Extremley Loud & Incredibly Close is a disappointing and inexcusable nomination, but why are you stating that a film like The Artist is not worthy of a win for the Best Picture Oscar? Instead, you make a pointless ramble on Drive, which really wasn't even considered a worthy candidate for 'Best Film of the Year' but rather a loss for Albert Brooks snubbed of a nomination.

The Artist, a delightful comedic drama, is one of the top films of the year; which, with no surprise, earned itself 10 nominations. Calling it 'not original' is an insult, for why compare Michel Hazanavicius's love letter to cinema with Quentin Tarantino? Quentin Tarantino, who is a fine director, is not even compatible to what Hazanavicius has done this year.

Your inconsistent focus and leading-to-nowhere babbling about other films that the Academy has awarded is not strong, but instead weak. What films are you even talking about, wishing to win the Academy Award for Best Picture? Make up your mind Mr. Kuramoto.

I read an article about Wahlburg that a stint in jail is what turned his life around. He saw people that he admired were in the same cell and he realized he was headed down the wrong path.

I want Chuck and Blair to finally get together. The only saving grace on Gossip Girl for me is them. Toxic or not, they will always pine for the other no matter who they each end up with, if not with each other. Compared to the other characters on GG, at least the love between Chuck and Blair is the one constant element of the entire series. He's loved her since end of Season 1, finally confessed his lvoe at the end of Season 2 and even after they had broken up a few times, they still gravitated back to each other. So, please, let them be together already

I agree - the Walter grief plot is beyond old. Also, as much as I love Fringe (prior seasons were cleverly written and well acted), this season has lots a lot of the same type of edge. Perhaps the return of the Jones character will change things.

I cried buckets at that kiss scene. Overall, I'm truly enjoying this show, though it does take getting used to - I tried to explain it to my husband and failed miserably, judging by the eye-rolling.

Well Matt, now if only Weinstein and Co would give it some PR and put it in more theaters! A few of those great trailers on television and at movie previews! Put a little money in it! It is in only two theaters here in LA despite the huge area and huge population!

We do want to see it! Help!

Finally..a positive review. As a fan of the Underworld movies, I really loved this one..however, there were a few holes in the movie plot that sort of fell flat. For instance..why were the lycans instead of the vampires wanting to mate with Selene's daughter? I understand the DNA thing and all. What happened to the vaccines? Why no emphasis put on Selene healing David and her creating daywalkers? Also, the ending with Micheal just running off the building made no sense (I know S.S. wasn't supposed to be there, but dang)
Again, the movie was action packed, and I loved it! I really hope they bring a female alpha lycan into the 5th installment if there is one. Would make for a good storyline.
