OK just to clarify: this whole post was meant to be a catharsis now that 1. LOST is over and 2. I realize that I had an unhealthy emotional connection to it. I appreciate the fact that there are better shows out there, but this was to pay homage to that fact that this amazing show mattered to people, and whether through its own fault (probably) or that of its critics, I feel like it didn't get its due in the end. In the shadow of all that is LOST and how much I know it mattered to fans, this post was for them.

I guess I was so glad to FINALLY see Danny in a leading role, I forgot what this was going to turn out like (only thing missing was a Tarantino cameo). I guess I would have liked it better if it was his second movie - the first being more of a show case of this well known character actor carving (sorry) his own niche. Music was pure Rodriguez, although the credit was given to someone else (go to his dvd extras in "One night"... and see his studio tour). A good flick to go out and see with the guys late nite for a good laugh. Hope no one takes Danny too seriously in this one and he gets another shot.

WHY, WHY, WHY did the GREAT Tyler Perry end the movie like that!?!? To take such an AWESOME movie and then END it the way he did? It was almost like he became TIRED of the story and said screw it ......... On a positive note, I REALLY enjoyed the 1st movie and 3/4 of the 2nd one. Janet was EXPLOSIVE! Way to go Janet! Very impressed..... I couldn't help but to think her acting came out in emotions with losing her brother.

THE ENDING KILLED ME!

How sad for you that you don't know who Aaron Paul and what Breaking Bad is. In short, it's the best drama and the best (lead)supporting sctor currently on TV.

Yes, better than Mad men, Dexter and, let's be honest, Lost. It should have won best drama, and best scripts, so ifanything BB was robbed.
No one was robbed in the acting category. Fox is solid and MOQ and Emerson are brilliant, but Cranston and Paul are in a league of their own. No comparison. Seriously, it's a ridiculous to even argue otherwise.

So, yeah, sorry for your lost. *badum tish*

Hate Gretchen and her cohorts. Reminds me of the mean bully types at school. So nasty and cruel to Michael...and oh yeah....jealous. That narrow witch mouth of hers...ugh. She has talent and they will keep her for the drama of course. But I almost hate her cohorts more for being spineless followers. Ivy especially.

Ok, just to let you know, Aaron Paul 100% deserved that emmy and Terry O’Quinn was in no way "robbed" and since, unlike you, I've actaully SEEN both shows, I would say my opinion counts just a bit more, don't you think?

Maybe you should watch Breaking Bad before you make assumptions that Matthew Fox and Terry O’Quinn were robbed? Just a suggestion. I've watched both and I'm absolutely convinced the rightful winners took home the trophies. And yes, I CAN deny that Lost was the best drama in the grand scheme of things, even though Lost deserves its credit for taking a great chance with storytelling and actually remaining popular. It does not mean it deserves the best drama credit. Its last season fell very short of its expectations.

Breaking Bad just finished its third season, not fourth.

Watch Breaking Bad, which is arguably the most shocking show currently on television, and The Big Bang Theory, which is one of the funniest shows currently on television and then maybe rewrite this. Matthew Morrison deserved his nomination, but Parsons deserved the Emmy. He should have won it last year. What he does with Sheldon Cooper is phenomenal. I was also fairly depressed that Lost did not win, but Mad Men was amazing this season.

That's usually the Emmy's problem. They don't award the awards when they should. It should have won for the first season, but I think giving it to them this year when they weren't the best just because it was the last season would have been wrong. Look at Jon Cryer, I think it's pretty widely believed that last year's supporting actor should have went to Neil Patrick Harris, but they gave it to Cryer to make up for all the years of him not getting it. It's stupid so I hope that they are going to start straying away from that. They also awarded a lot more first time Emmy's than usual which was a nice deviation from the usual.

WOW!!! Where do I start with your...review?? For someone who writes for a pop-culture website you should have a better finger on the pulse of things in Hollywood. First of all it's sacrilege to feign ignorance over what is undoubtedly one of the most riveting shows on television right now, Breaking Bad. The fact that this show hasn't hit your radar is surprising considering you're a television reviewer. I don't know what's worse, the fact that you felt LOST deserved to win big (get a clue, it didn't and rightfully so, having been an avid LOSTie since day one myself) or your disdain for Claire Danes purely for her romantic association and not her amazing performance on yet another Hollywood production you knew nothing about. I recommend you climb out from underneath the rock you've apparently been living under and get with the program if you want to continue "reviewing" for television. Having LOST as your barometer for what's provocative on television these days is so 2005. Good Luck :)

You hope Peggy "...can get a little respect like Rodney Dangerfield." ?? Hmm.

That makes no sense at all. Rodney Dangerfield "never could get no respect!"

So you really want Peggy to get respect or no?

"Double cousin" from a geneaology standpoint arise when siblings from one family marry siblings from another family--for example, when two sisters from one family marry two brothers from another family. Pretty common, and not incestuous, more like 'hey I could fix your cute sister up with my brother.'

So the children of the two families are cousins on both their mother's and father's sides, genetically more like siblings than cousins.

Although in Hotshot world, I'd presume they are probably double cousins/siblings six times over.

The judges favorite was aria from the beginning and obviously when judges chose any chef to win the camera/star challenge, that person is their favorite. At the same time the judges have big expectations from chefs who wins challenges week after week. This is to prove that these chefs are the front runners and likely to go the final, not being lazy in showcasing their talent that they slip down. Aria was a good example, she was the one who had the camera presence and good food, but she was less impressive towards the final. Herb was the big surprise, his self doubt was same as aarti. At one point herb just said he didn't know why he was in the competition, and he himself was unsure of reaching the finals when aria was eliminated. Herb wanted to win badly when he reached the final, when he should have focused on that goal from the beginning or midway thru the competition. Tom is only person who had a great personality but he is the same as Guy, we have one Guy we don't need another. I think suzie was right about not knowing how to market tom.

Food network made the right decision this time after Guy. If tom won, he would have the same title as other food network star chefs i.e Guy's big bite or big daddy. There are chef's who has his concept as showing audiences not to be afraid of food, taking big risks etc... I was not impressed w.tom's food either since its been there done that. He has a great personality, but its the food that is different and exciting that counts more. Herb was my only favorite besides aarti, but his healthy cuisine is done by other chefs that has their books out already. It would be better to pick a chef who has that p.o.v and has already proved to be marketable through books, appearing on talk shows. Even though aarti was my favorite, i thought she wouldn't win because bringing indian cuisines is new to the food network and audiences who are alien to that cuisine might not like it. If tom won, he would have the same title as other food network star chefs i.e Guy’s big bite or big daddy. There are chef’s who has his concept as showing audiences not to be afraid of food, taking big risks etc… I was not impressed w.tom’s food either since its been there done that. Even though aarti was my favorite, i thought she wouldn’t win because bringing indian cuisines is new to the food network and audiences who are alien to that cuisine might not like it. Even aarti didn’t expect to win because she kept stressing the point that indian cuisine is intimidating and oztracize people, despite being optimistic about her concept.

the formulas is wearing thin: I uber bitch, aanother watered down 'countess"--this time it's a superficial chick named Mary who believes that HER claim to royalty is Arthur Godfrey--pardon me for rolling on the ground in fits of laughter. Having met the guy and worked with him...he was no royalty. The nicest person seems to be Stacie. Now the smartest fella involved is Charles, the photographer. He be gone!!!! One thing I will give this group. Their grammar is a helluva lot better than ANY of the housewives groups. In my opinion they are all trailer trash who have come upon some money-----and in some cases that seems a little doubtful.

I agree with Nicole. I want the ballsy Booth back. I don't think the decision to play around with their relationship at the expense of his character was a good move. You can't tell me an army trained sniper and FBI agent can turn into that much of a wimp. And taking away his marksmanship ability was lame. Worse was the fact that he could only pass with her there. Talk about completely emasculating the guy.

I think there were so many other story lines the writers could have taken. What about the fact that all the squints ask Booth for advice. He clearly started out the "power" figure in the structure and is uncomfortable with that role. He avoids it. Talk about a great story line for him. While she struggles with her love for him he struggles with the knowledge that he is "looked up to" and has great power. With Bones alone...he tells her to forgive her father, he tells her to continue her relationship with Sully, etc. Zack asks him about the army, Hodgons asks him about proposing to Angela, It's a natural story line and Something an addict would be very uncomfortable with.

I also miss the conversations about fact versus intuition. religion vs. atheism, love vs. duty. I would like to go back to the intelligent show it was.

I was Team Roberto all the way, and I knew the guy was going to propose and give her a rose even with all the lousy edits. It was a complete hatchet job on Roberto's edits all through the season, because right from the beginning on it was the Ali and Roberto show and ABC panicked. Even the crew knew that it was Roberto to the exclusion of all others as mentioned in an E article.

Right from the first episode Both Chris, and Frank get long introductions about where they are from, filmed in their hometowns, with Frank's Chicago right off the top of the show. In fact, Frank narrates most of the season.

In contrast, Roberto gets a 2 second intro of him shaving shirtless and saying "Ali is beautiful" before cutting to the next guy.

Odd that Roberto gets first impression rose and then not heard from all of the second episode until a little 2 minute lighting round at the cocktail party when they play baseball and Ali blushes like a school girl around him.

He finally gets a good edit because Ali wants him for the most daring stunt the tightrope, and the sparks were exploding. When Roberto begins to really get into conversation with Ali at dinner, the camera cuts away, and Ali does a voice over about the type of guy he is, but unlike Frank or Chris, we never get to listen to those conversations, or how he speaks Italian and French in addtion to Spanish.

Even getting a good edit for the Lion King, Roberto doesn't get a rose. Coincidence? Hardly. Instead it's Kirk's turn to tuck Ali in, but not before Ali turns to Roberto to tell him that Kirk will walk her to her room and grabs Roberto's hand in the process.

Episode 5 and 6 you hardly know Roberto is on the show. Most glaringly when in Finland at the cocktail party...the guys talk to Kasey about his weirdass tattoo for about 20 minutes, without Roberto around. Where's Roberto?e He's just gone for a really long time and Ali's with him because we see them greeting one another with a kiss and a hug, but somehow the camera stays on the guys instead of the one on one time.

Ali admits in her blog there was a scene completely edited out at the Blue Lagoon, when things got steamy with Roberto. ABC when in doubt, they cut it out.

Definitely it was supposed to be Frank and Roberto at the final 2. She even admitted that in one interview with Kimmel. She sensed all along that Frank wasn't the one, Frank was holding back and she knew it. Frank was the safe one to take to the final 2 because he was going through the motions. Her crying over Frank was more out of frustration and worry that the show would become a mess. It was a huge change in strategy now that Frank left, and she decided with the producers to cut Chris loose early, but they had to film it and that made her anxious when she went to his villa. Everyone knew how vulnerable Chris was, and she wasn't prepared for Chris to meet the family, because Chris is perfect for the family. Frank with his more unstable lifestyle would not be a family favorite, and the choice would be validated for Roberto.

In this context, Ali is not a flake, but a young woman who has to make a show entertaining. She did it, and she got the best guy at the end. Pretty. Smart.

I agree that this episode got Top Chef back on track after the pea puree scandal and Kenny's premature exit stifled the last couple of weeks. This week's quickfire looked genuinely difficult and was conceptually innovative, while the elimination challenge provided an opportunity for some creative thinking, causing the lesser chefs to crash and burn. Amanda making soup out of soup had me howling (can't wait for her to go), while Tiffany's deconstructed, disguised gyros definitely deserved the win. She's clearly the one to beat at this point. Angelo's meltdown was bizarre -- loved your idea that without Kenny, he's without his yang. Ha! I ate at Alex's restaurant in Hollywood before he was on the show, and I have to admit the food was great and I'd still go back, but I'm beyond thrilled to have him off my TV. Great recap!

I actually haven't read the book, but I am definitely going too. It sounds like many enjoyed it a lot more than the movie. But like most adaptations, I'm not surprised in the least.

I think that this last show really showed how the decisions are already made If you listen closely Bobby Flay give the winner away in the first 2 episodes and I dont think its fair for the other contestants thats way I will not be tuning in again.

... That I I loved the book, is an understatement. I connected with its multilayers and messages. I knew a movie could never capture the book's essence. It didn't. I wasn't disappointed.... because it was a feast for the eyes..... Julia (flawless- unrealistic...but beautiful to look at), the food, the scenery;..... but that's it. The novel touched so many levels of life...that Hollywood couldn't begin to recognize. But, it tried. There was a disconnect between the main character and the message of the novel. The scenes between locations were too abrupt... Liz went through major transformations with definite feelings/lessons learned at each dsetination, that the movie failed to recognize (and Richard.....way, way off!) If you don't compare the book with the movie, and.. you enjoy beauiful scenery... and you don't mind financing the Hollywood machine....you won't be disappointed.

If we don't talk about that all that is left is a trail of bad debts, a winery in bankruptcy, a family's internal fued fought out in the courts, a narcissistic, self-proclaimed "It" couple thinking if they put on the pretense long enough they will be accepted as part of Washington DC's elite.

I absolutely loved the book.
I was so looking forward to the movie, and to Julie Roberts playing the leading role.....but honestly, she could have been much better.
The actor who did the BEST job is the one who played Richard Jenkins' character, full of depth, passion, character.
The scenery was beautiful, though it was always showed CLOSE-UPS of Julie, which somehow didn't always worked. So many scenes should have shown her from a distance, wandering in Italy etc...so we can feel more with her, not just look at her beauty.
One of my favourite scenes was the taxi cab ride into India on the way to the Ashram. It really worked.
The movie missed details, and changed some parts of the book, which is really frustrating for those of us who know the book (eg: the Indian wedding, and Liz praying for the Indian girl instead of her nephew...this really bothered me).

Anyways, I guess they did their best to make the most money possible, but sometimes it shouldn't be just about money, it should be about being authentic.

Thank you,
Cynthia

I read the book and was very surprised that I loved the movie. Usually that does not happen. I also loved the character Richard and almost cried when he left to go back to Texas. Felipe was ok but the typical gorgeous guy. I wanted Richard with his flaws and forgiveness for her. A very well acted movie and the scenery is not bad either.

It really is a great deal of fun, and something we've been missing for what seems like a very long guy: real guys doing real stunts the old-school way. Stallone continues his remarkable renaissance and gives us all a reason to go back to the movies and have a great time. I just hope he feels a little more confident in the sequel to spend some time developing the core personalities of these guys, and telling us how they got together, what their military history is, etc.

How awesome is it for a 64-year-old man to create another explosive action franchise for himself? It's unheard of. Stallone continues to rewrite the rules and inspire others to do the same.

"This was the best movie i ever seen hope to see a second on with the same people pluse more actors."

Then you have extremely low standards and piss poor tastes in movies if you think this is the best film you've ever seen. Hell it wouldn't even make a top 10 list for this year.

As to the idiot who wrote this article whining about lost action heroes and 80s action films, that's because 90% of those films sucked and those action stars of old, saved for a Stallone performance in Cop Land, couldn't act their way out of a paper bag.

Thanks. I went and saw it again today and enjoyed it a lot more. I was too hard on it the first time. I still feel most of what I said, but there's a lot of enjoyment to be had with this one if you just go into it with the right mindset, which I didn't the first time around.

Scott Pilgrim is definitely on my list. Edgar Wright is enough to get me to go in spite of Michael Cera. Waiting to read your review until I see it. Thanks!

I know how much you were looking forward to this, it's gotta suck.

I had the chance to meet Stallone at Comic Con. He's a pretty cool guy.

If you really liked Hot Fuzz, you should definitely check out Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim vs The World. I've gotta say the dialogue and action are pretty damn awesome.

The Salahis did not have a police escort - they couldn't orchestrate that even if they had money and clout (which they don't) and even if MPD is the most broke down DC agency ever (it's close).
I haven't rewatched the show since the finale and I turned on season 4 just now and googled lost and found this. As I was reading this the second episode of season 4 in charlottes backstory she's doing an excavation in the desert and they find a polar bear skeleton with a dharma collar. Interesting coincidence that I was reading this while watching that. But it confirms that this wasn't the writers trying to throw some answers together. They planned this. And Walt working on the island in whatever capacity explains why he appeared to locke older and helped locke and appeared to shannon. And pretty much everything else that bothered me about the show. I wondered after the finale if the writers had a goal now my doubts are assured. All is well, thx for this man
