The Nokia Theater in Los Angeles was abuzz with the excitement of seven-thousand American Idol fans, all there for the same exact reason: to experience the crowning of season eleven’s winner. It was a two night affair, as always, with the first night consisting of finalists Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez duking it out on stage over three-rounds of competitive singing. What to Expect When You’re Expecting is pretty much what you’d expect. The 11o-minute adaptation of the classic guide book for soon-to-be moms (co-written by Shauna Cross and Heather Hach and directed by Kirk Jones) is indeed as bloated and soulless as it looks — a polished ensemble cast of bankable pore-free faces dutifully reciting a formulaic script with one eye on the clock and one foot out the door. But not a single one of us could possibly have predicted just how acutely this movie would fail to entertain, even on a superficial level.

The big hometown trips were revealed for the remaining top three this week. Each singer was flown to their respective homes and given a proper welcome with loads of screaming, crying fans and a slew of supportive billboards. It was a rewarding and overly emotional experience for the potential idols but unfortunately one of the three was destined to turn back for a second immediate homecoming.

With only two weeks left until the American Idol finale, tensions are mounting, dreams are no doubt being shattered, and the stakes are higher than ever. This was a big week since we would finally find out which contestants would be taking part in the Hometown Heroes celebration, an event where basically each singer would get to take a mini-vacation back to their local stomping grounds to be greeted by parades and loads of screaming fans. Four contestants were left competing Wednesday night but by Thursday only the coveted top three spots were left.
