The Newsroom is Back…and Yes, We Still Need It

A little over a year ago HBO began airing what initially seemed to be a slam-dunk: an hour-long dramedy about the cable news biz written by one of the greatest television writer/producers of our generation: Aaron Sorkin. The Newsroom first teased us with a stunning trailer showing series star Jeff Daniels going off on a young college student when she asks him why America is the greatest country in the world. Daniels’ character, Will McAvoy, responds with a blistering critique of the state of affairs in America that leads him to say, “The first step in solving a problem is recognizing there is one. America is not the greatest country in the world anymore.”

After seven seasons of seeing her fend of White House reporters on The West Wing, this week’s episode of Veep gave the great Allison Janney a chance to play one herself for once. It was suggested on last week’s episode that this particular reporter, Janet Ryland, was a pushover and could grant Selina the puff piece kind of interview needed to get her image back on track, but little did Selina’s staff know that Janet would be out for blood!

Mad Men Recap: Is It Time For Season Six Yet?

Its been a glorious 13 weeks for my fellow Mad Men fans and I. In the last 13 weeks we’ve laughed, we’ve cried, we’ve battled cancer, dealt with weigh issues, had our first period, and said goodbye to some friends under a wide range of circumstances, but once again we find ourselves in the dark ages. That’s right – the awful time period between seasons.
The last time we hit this point it was almost a year and half before we found ourselves back in 1960s Manhattan, but thanks to the extended contract battles of that era I think we can rest assured that early 2013 will bring us back in touch with our favorite characters from Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce(?).

I have now let a few minutes go by and am no longer speechless, but holy crap – last night’s episode of Mad Men? I can’t even begin to describe how stunningly beautiful and well crafted it was.
